With loving hearts and willing minds, The Bennett way we trod, Not only for ourselves, our school, And country, but for God. In this great world, we are just one group From all locales and climes, But all we do reflects the life, And living in our times: A mass march at the Capitol The aim: to make men free And happy Christmas sisters joined Around a shining tree. The dormitories in the night. Unbroken Bennett green. The old library filled with light. A beautiful May Queen. The stately reverent chapel where In thankfulness we went, For having known the goodness of A Pope and President. But after darkness comes the dawn In which we turn from sorrow And ever forward, walk to face A promising tomorrow. We think of leaders strong and true Who led us through this year. The students and the faculty, Always prepared and near. Miss Idle Gossip ' s resting place Beside the Bennett Bell That pealed oh so majestically A sound we know so well. But just how much can one poem say, Or one yearbook impart? The memories not found in here Live deep within the heart. Dianne Mitchell Many of our attitudes and ideas of life in our times are formulated here in the Bennett community. 1 ? m m m ' £ ! ' ♦ . CHORUS Alma Mater, now we sing, Hail the light that thou doest bring; True we ' ve been throughout the past; True to thee while life shall last. May we never smirch the good Gendered here in sisterhood May we ever choose aright Guided but by honor bright; Ever lovelier shalt thou live, As thy daughters freely give: Ever glorious above, Testimonies of our love. ' Til the evening shadows fall, ' Til we heed our last clear call, Mother, may we offer thee Lives of worth and purity? Go with us throughout the years, Smile on us in doubts and fears; Bless us with thy tender care, Mother- -fairest of the fair! KENNEDY A LIGHT HAS GONE What be the tears and the turmoil that I see; A light has left the world for all eternity. Let the nation and the world pay homage unto him, Our leader, from which the freedoms of the world did stem. Great a man so he was in his memorable years, Expressed so deeply in four long days of tears. Hail to our chief, in silence may he rest, His light never be forgotten, his years be the best. So be the trend of freedoms never-ending fight, That lived within his soul and come to be his might. Mourn not his death, for it t ' was not in vain; The liberties of man n ' er be so easily slain. His beliefs and his principles shall live forever; As he fought so hard in each of his endeavors; True Democracy shall miss him indeed, And rely on his philosophies in time of need. A shot! A scream! was all that it took; A sob, a tear, and then a mournful look. The President is dead! May God save the world, Defend his beliefs, less be there more turmoil. Then; six white horses on a sunny day, Rode our chief in silence to lay. The nation drowned in its terrible shame While forever upon his grave will burn the eternal flame. His journey as in Christ ' s, was to save ALL mankind; So cry not any more and look not behind. Life will never cease to exist, though GOOD men die; The nation and the world forget just why. May God protect our country, in its years yet to be, And let not his death hamper our strive for universal liberty For such was his life; may generations unto sing Of John Fitzgerald Kennedy Long live the King! President The historic year of 1963 illustrates a truth we know all too well. There are many turns a road can take in a brief span of time. No person can know what the future has in store. This is why it is important to take every opportunity to dramatize the pleasant and rewarding events in human experience. Life in Our Time s , an appropriate theme chosen by your Yearbook Committee, provides a pleasant record of the collegiate experience of the Bennett Students. For the seniors, in particular, it will be a resource for remembering the care-free, fun- chucked days you often thought to be difficult and terribly demanding. They were this, too. In the future you will have many occasions to review the undergraduate years - to dream about them - to long for them - and perhaps to cry a little. The experience of remembering will be a source of strength each time you face a new and uncertain circumstance. We have many reasons to congratulate you, the seniors, for your achievements. You are a lovely class. We hope that a good life is in store for each of you. We are grateful to the Yearbook staff for providing this record which allows you to recall many experiences you will be glad to re- member over many, many years. Willa B. The layout must be planned, advertisements have to be solicited and copy prepared. Yearbook work is very demanding and yet very reward- ing. It affords an unforgettable experience for those who can participate. I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to all those persons who worked so faithfully and diligently to make possible the 1963-64 edition of the BENNETT BELLE. My special thanks to our advisor, Miss Jean Franklin.
