Volleyball The Volleyball team won ten of their fourteen scheduled games this season. The girls got off to a good start winning their first game from Central, 47-6. However, in their next game they were defeated by Roca, 2.6-Z0 in a hard fought Ove rtime game. The team responded to this defeat with five straight victories over Walton, Roco, Sterling, Firth, and Murdock. After being defeated by a powerful Hickman team, the girls walloped Hallam, 37-14. In the L. C.A.A. tournament Panama defeated Bennet in the first round of play by a score of Z5-Z1 in a close game. Panama then went on to win the tournament. Coach Carlin's team were bothered by a low ceiling at the Sterling gym and were defeated Z6-17. The fans at the last home game saw the girls wearing new suits purchased with a combination of funds donated by the P. T.A. , Pep Club, and money from the Activities fund. The girls showed their appreciation for these suits by walloping the the Firth girls, 61-7. After journeying to Palmyra to be defeated, 30-IZ they went on to defeat Hallam and Raymond to finish the season. Bennet was knocked out of the Mudecas tournament at Adams in the first round of play. After leading most of the game, the team was defeated, Z8-27 by a heart-breaking rally by the Malcolm girls. Basketball Boys The Bennet High School Basketball team got off to a good early season start, winning five of our six games preceeding the Mudecas tournament, the only loss being a one point defeat by Walton. In the Mudecas tourney we defeated top-seeded Clatonia by a 50-45 score, but then lost a 41-42 decision to Douglas in the finals of tournament play. During the re- mainder of the season we won several ball games and lost a few by close scores. At tournament time we seemed to hit the toughest teams in the first or second round of play. At the County tourney, we were defeated by Waverly who went on to win the tournament. ln the district we won our first round game with Roca, but were defeated by Palmyra in a close game. This team went on to win the district and eventually wound up with second place in the State Class D. Tournament. The season's record for the Bennet Aces is ll wins and 8 loses.
