There s Muslc m The Aw In the fall of 1951 the Bennet Hlgh School was happy to welcome Mr Ivan H IVI1ller as our new musxc mstructor I-Ie came here after bemg 1n the Waverly school system the year before After consxderable thought It was decrded to orgamze a band and after a door to door campargn there were twenty exght begtnners As the year progressed these beglnners were forgotten about and durlng the football season the fxfteen members rn the band played at the football games whxle the pep club dr1lled on the fleld Mr M1ller reahzed the need for group unlty so he orgamzed the Band Mothers Club to help ralse funds for Instruments unlforrns and muslc One ofthe flrst projects of the mothers was to sponsor shows for the commumty At Chrrstmas trme the whole school took part m a program made up of somethmg from each grade room and the hlgh school After Chrrstmas vacatxon the begmners were put m the Begmner s Band and three weeks later were put ln the advanced band Thls brought the total from seventeen up to thlrty flve m the band Fxve more weeks of hard work found the band puttmg on a concert on February 25th wlth the new umforms whxch had been purchased by money donated toward a fund for that purpose The band was very well recerved and they also recelved a great deal of publrclty from thrs Next In slght for the muslc department was musxc contest trme so for some four or flve weeks of hard practlcxng found several taklng part rn vocal and mstrumental solos Followlng are pa rtrclpated Inta Jaunltrs Joyce Honaker Letha Roeder lVlar1lyn Plerson Donna Hagaman Eldon Beavers Jlm W1ssel Paul VN lles .hm Hagaman Martlyn Fochtman Joyce Honaker Phyllls Thomas Joyce Honaker Donna I-Iagaman Trrple Trro Boys Quartet Curls Chorus Boys Chorus Mlxed Chorus vocal groups and the band the ratmgs from the dlfferent muslc events 1n whlch Bennet High Hlgh Medlum Medlum LOW I-hgh Medrum Medrum LOW Duet Tr1o , O O O Vocal Mu.
