In Read- ing they studied open highways, S. R. A. Power, Rate Building and Special Reading. Addition, multiplication, and division facts and pro- cesses were covered in Arithmetic. HERMAN served as Principal of the Elementary Unit this year. He received his B. S. in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska and is in his first year at Palmyra. A necessary part of each school is the secretary. PICTURED here is Ruby King, the Bennet School secretary. MISS MARY I-IAZUKA attended the College of Saint Mary in Omaha before coming to the University of Nebraska, where she earned her B. A. in music. She also holds a Master of Music degree. Miss I-Iazuka has been teaching at Bennet for two years. Jesse Phillips is the indispensible and always-needed cus- todian of the Bennet School. At the LEFT are pictured Freda Hopp and Ruth Wilson, who do the cooking at the ele- mentary school. 16
