Etra, Chairman KU Board Trustees, late Monrad G. Paulsen, Hrst Dean of Cardozo School of Law Benjamin N. Cardozo School Of Law Was Officially Inaugurated On April 11, 1976, At A Convocation Which Featured An Address By U.S. Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. Powell, Jr. Justice Powell Was Awarded An Honorary Degree At The Convocation, As Were U.S. Attorney General Edward H. Levi, Israel's Ambassador To The United Nations Chaim Herzog, Cardozo's Chairman Of The Board, Morris B. Abram, And Henry L. Schwartz, President Of The Brookdale Foundation. Having Been Accredited By The American Bar Association In 1982, Cardozo's Deans Have Included Acting Dean Lester Brickman, John Hanks, Now Commissioner Of Franchise Of The City Of New York And, Currently, Monroe E. Price Who Came To Cardozo In 1983 From U.C.L.A. In Recent Years, Cardozo Has Added A Number Of Prestigious Endowed Programs To Its Academic Foundation, Including The Jacob Burns Institute For Advanced Legal Research And The Samuel And Ronnie Heyman Center On Corporate Governance, Two Major Avenues Through Which Cardozo Will Pursue Intensive Legal Research And Education. Since That First Class Of 1976, Cardozo Has Graduated Some 3,000 Attorneys Whose Performance In Both The Public And Private Sectors Have Earned Cardozo Its Growing Reputation For Excellence Within The Academic And Practicing Legal Communities. From Past To Present . . . The Benjamin N. Cardozo School Of Law Of Yeshiva University Opened In September Of 1976. The Selection Of Faculty Upon Whose Scholarship And Teaching The School Was To Be Founded Began In The Summer Of 1975 With The Appointment Cf Professor Monrad C.. Paulsen As Both The University Vice President For Legal Education And As Cardozo's First Dean. A Distinguished Teacher, Administrator, And Legal Scholar In The Fields Of Domestic Relations, Constitutional Law, And Juvenile Delinquency, He Came To Cardozo From The University Of Virginia School Of Law Where He Had Been Dean Since 1969. The Selection Of The Balance Of The Initial Faculty Of Twelve Was Completed In Early 1976. A Construction Program Was Begun At The University's Brookdale Center, 55 Fifth Avenue, In Early 1976, Which Included Classrooms, Seminar Rooms, Lecture Halls, A Moot Court Room, Faculty Offices, And A Student Lounge. A Major And Central Component Was The Three-Story Law Library, Which Initially Held 90,000 Volumes And Today Holds Nearly 300,000. I US.
