Professor Jacobson was an associate with the firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen 8: Hamilton, New York City, from 1975 to 1977. He holds a Ph.D. in government, on the political philoso- phy of Hegel. His scholarly work has focused on fiduciary obligation and the law of associa- tions. Professor Jacobson's areas of teaching are civil procedure, jurisprudence, and corpo- rate law. After graduating as a Root- Tilden Scholar from New York University School of Law, Dean joel joined the Bronx District Attorney's Of- fice in 1975. He taught in France until 1968 at which time he went to Israel. He has been a professor at He- brew University Law School since 1968 and Dean of the Law School, 1978-81. He was a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania in 1977, and at the Uni- versity of Southern California in 1986. ' . .pam ln-. james B. Lewis Visiting Professor of Law. LL.B., 1940, Catholic University of America. Professor Lewis was, from 1955 to 1982, a partner of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton 811 Garrison, New York City, specializing in tax- ation. He has taught on the adjunct faculties of New York Universi- ty and Rutgers law schools. He has served on the legal staffs of the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service. Professor Lewis has been a consultant to the American Law Institute's federal estate and gift tax and federal income tax projects. He was chairman of the Section of Taxation, American Bar Association, 1984-85. He was a member of the Advisory Group to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue in 1977 and 1987. Professor Halberstam is a member of the orig- inal faculty of the Law School. Previously she was a professor at Loyola University, and a visiting professor at a number of institutions. She has held a number of positions in the public and private sectors, including that of assistant district attorney in the Office of Frank S. Hogan and senior attorney for the National Legal Program on Health Problems of the Poor. Professor Hanks began his teaching career as an associate in law at Colum- bia Law School 11968-721. Subsequent- ly he was director of admissions 11971-731 and assistant professor of law 41972-741 at Rutgers University School of Law, and visiting assistant professor at Indiana University School of Law C1973-741. He was an associate professor of law at Cleveland State University during 1975-76. While a student at Rutgers Law School, Professor Hanks was research editor of the Rutgers Law Review. He was appointed special master by Unit- ed States District Court judge Robert L. Carter in 1980 to implement a court decree ordering the City of New York to construct certain sewage treatment plants. He served as associate dean of academic affairs at Cardozo during 1981-82.
