Activities Planned . ' .eS by VICKI DAVIS Once you have school spirit, it will carry over to most things, insists Kent Atwell, president of the Student Organization. Kent hopes to tackle the problem of student apatliy through a new constitution that insures student rights and re- flects students ' ideas, as well as a planned program of activities that will appeal to everyone. Constitution in Works The new constitution will include ■he Bill of Rights of the Students Afhich was approved over the sum- Tier. The constitution will be written Dy the S.O., the S.T.P., representa- ives and one elected delegate from ;he sophomore, junior, and senior ilasses respectively. After a con- stitution is prepared, it will be voted )n by the student body. Activities Planned The planned activities, which Kent ays will offer something for iverybody, will include a Folk Concert, tentatively scheduled for ■lov. 10, a dance the night of Dec. 4, uid a film festival on Oct. 28 and 19, Admission for the festival will 3 $1.50 a night. Among the fare ffered will be horror films, W. C. lelds, and the Marx Brothers. Kent also trying to organize a girls ack team. Will be Political Kent feels that Definitely, the O. will take political stands this sar. He requested that anypoli- cal groups in the school come and Jk to me so tliat the S.O. will low what ' s going on and will be Die to organize the students. He ■els that the students have an sligation to make their feelings aown. In reference totheLeader- lip Class, Kent hopes it will include one of every viewpoint, and will be ble to bring all opinions together 1 order to openly arrive at ultimate oals. He hopes it will be a free iscussion group and he promises ) have at least one member of the :xecutive Council of the S.O. present t each meeting. Kent is aware of the problems hat a new school such as Cardozo ;as and is also aware of the times. i.s he states it, I ' d like to make this ob easier for next year ' s presi- lent. ' 6 . S.O. State of Affairs Affects All by KAREN DAINER and ROBIN ROSENBERG Our present organization is presently faced with the likelihood of collapse. The deterioration could be prevented by alleviating tlie debts the school has incurred. This situ- ation could be relieved if student tins, as well as to preside over the election of representatives. In many official sections no one has even mentioned tlie fact that S.O. dues should be paid. And, if the subject is brought up no one is assigned the task of collecting them. These prob- ;ausedbythe ress system .ity is that as reached )ns, that S.O. )me an un- any. Besides nts think the h politically lensely vital ining of the the link be- and student basis for all olicy for Cie If there is one thing that h brought the students together, it h been our teams. For a while U year, all students were united in su port of their basketball team. Wit out the S.O. all of the following woi be nonexistent: basketball, baseba soccer, volleyball, tennis, bowlir gymnastics, swimming, trac fencing and golf. SING! Do you know that 1 out of everj students belongs to SING? And tliese sing members realize that the S.O. fails, .so will sing? O viously not, because there is greater percentage of students w belong to SING, than are membe of the S.O. SING seem. ' worthwh; enough to be upheld as a traditic This will be virtually impossit without the support of the S. PRETZELS! and other good thin come from the S.O. store. But, wit out S.O. subsidies, the doors of roc 159 will be bolted forever. Although many do not reali2 it, the S.O. is the backbone of ;; student activities that take pla outside the classroom. To be con pletely effective it requires tot student support. .. J S.O. Stunts Own Growth f by PAULA AMOLS % f n. ' ' Or. ient lx)dy has long been its apattiy, a point well oast. But if the stu- ' Ki ' CV ' ' ore so this year, k 1 W rne, indeed, j ' O - F M should go to C Q f V towards dan, (Q year - NT support if paying the VX where was tli ' to do this, to go to Uie stuaeias, r cci. them informed, etc.? True, there is no P A .svs pm hnf fe published newsletters witli all Uie happenings , problems, and plans in the S.O. Why were the students never notified by the S.O. as to financial difUcuities? The S.O. ex- ecutives should not wait for other school organs to take ttie initiative. Perhaps new students would have joined the S.O. had tliey known :-uiy- thing about it. Lack of Plans Aside from that, the S.O. is doing nothing. What happened to last year ' s constitution, or the new one supposedly in tlie works? Why are ; » d-raising events planned, only to C - riously disappear? .A.nd how ... .j mes must a student go to tlie S.O. office for tJie same thing office being closed during A.M. or P.M. official. Lf the officers cannot be ttiere, tlien it is the duty of Mr. Gershon, S.O. advisor, to be there. To effectively represent the stu- dents, for it is the Student Organization, the Executive Council must be aware of how the student body feels on the many problems facing it. Before tlie S.O. executives can go to the administration witli an idea, they must first make sure that they are representing more than just themselves. To achieve this, student polls should be conducted at regular intervals or whenever something of a pertinent nature comes up. It is time for the students to demand of tlie S.O. that which they are due, and for the S.O. to begin
