With the advent of a new soccer season, followers of the Queens A Division invariably picked Cardozo to have a dismal season, and ultimately be relegated to the B Division for the subsequent year. This perhaps could have been substantiated by the fact that no other schools in Cardozo ' s immediate vicinity play A Divi- sion soccer. However, Mr. Tatarian ' s squad surprised everyone by finishing in a tie for third with an 8-5-1 won lost league record, and a 12-6-1 over-all record. This year ' s team was, for the most part, a new one. Co-cap- tains Ricky Sposta and Ed Beaugris were the only return- ing starters from the previous year ' s team. The team ' s success can be attributed to various factors. For the most part, defense was outstanding. Mario Treglia, an all-Queens honorable mention goalie, recorded 4 shut- outs. The fullbacks were led by Camille Hostin, Oswald Dwyer, and George Tenet. Both Camille and Oswald were members of a senior all star team, which played against an all star team from Philadelphia. The Halfbacks were led by Halit Uyger, Terrance Walcott, and Dervant Mon- tique who was on second team all-Queens. Utility half- back-fullback Gabriel Ceron came through well in clutch situations. The front line was composed of right wing Claude Baptiste, inside right Ed Beaugris who was first team all-Queens, inside left Mike Hall, and left wing Ricky Sposta. Anthony King, Sako Mourad, Cliff Langweiller and Dwight Richards proved to be of invaluable aid in giv- ing the regulars needed rest during the game. In addi- tion, they turned in strong performances on the field.
