Wayne Talarzyk, way out in front of the second place runner, passes the baton to Bruce Brazelton, another speedy senior, as he begins the final lap of another wirming relay. Senior pole oaulter Dave Freeman shows the skill needed for pole uaulting and rlemonstrates the form which won him hrst place in the Petersburg relays and SIAC meet. 22 Sprinters Pace OUR TRACK SQUAD under the guidance of Coach Max Smith cut a wide swath in the win column this season. We swept over six city track foes, in addition to many ont-of-town schools and we won the Petersburg Relays for the third time in as many years. YVe also won the city meet for our third year in a row. Then we traveled to New Albany for the annual SIAC meet, which we lost to New Albany for our first and only defeat. As the senior edition went to press, we were still faced with the sectional, regional and state meets. The hulk of the work on the track squad was carried hy the Big Threev this year, composed of seniors Bruce Brazelton, VVayne Talarzyk, and junior hurdler and sprint man Ronnie Snodgrass. Brazelton ran the 100, 220, 440, and the mile and half-mile relay, however, his specialty was the 440. It was a privilege to watch Talarzyk, the man with the iron lungs, run the mile and the half-mile with ease. During the SIAC meet, he ran hoth the mile and the half-mile, winning both hut was disqualilied in the half-mile for allegedly shoving a man on the first turn. Snodgrass, easily the cityls hest in the hurdles, had the best times in 'the high hurdles and set a new city record in the lows. Setting records seems to he a hobby for Ronnie, as he now holds the Freshman low hurdle record, and the Freshman SIAC record in the same event. Coaches Max Smith ancl Guy Anclress hold an impromptu conference as they watch their charges prepare them- selves for an all-important meet.
