Doug Clll'lIlllf'k gives the truziitionni kiss to queen .xvllllftl Neicnizm to liiglziiglit the lllllllllli junior prom. The prom ltiiem-e, appropriately Nxitltilliigllf Mist, was carried out with tl large erystul moon in the College L'nion Building Lobby. THERE VVAS A BIT UF MAGIC mixed in with tl1e spirit of o11r pro111s. It hegan long hefore filllt' for the dances, way hack when we were first discussing i11 C0111- mittees the choice of an orchestra, a suitable nzune and theme eolors. This inagie grew ill intensity, and was very apparent on tl1e day of the proins, when we worked, clad i11 sweatshirts and blue jeans, to trans- forin a IIHISS of seoteh tape, silver glitter, paste, staples and pai11t into a shiininering world of fantasy for tilt' eonling evening. XVhen the hig I'llOI1lL'llt finally did arrive, the hoys dressed in tuxedos and dark suits, while the girls put on their fluffy, billowing forinals and nervously sat down to wait. After greetings were exchanged tl1e fun really hegan. It was always neeessary to make tl1e rounds of tlllt preliniinary events, known as eoke par- ties, he-fore going to the danee. llere we adinired eor- sages, posed for pictures, eonihed o11r hair and took one last deep hreath hefore striking out for the inain event of tilt' evening. FROINI THE MOMENT we entered the huilding, we were eaught 11p in the inagieal spirit. Tl1e heauty of the deeorations, tl1e soft nnisie, the glowing lights, along with the soft rnstle of r1et and taiteta - these helped ereate an ahnost ethereal feeling tl1at neared perfeetion. For our junior proni we ehose the theine uxiflllltliglli Blistf' whieh we earried out i11 all the deeorations and eentralized i11 an big revolving nlllflflllu Dong Carinaek and Xaney Newinan were ehosen to reign over the gala oeeasion. Knowing it would he our last proin, we decided that NIe1noires lJ,Allt0llll1l'U would he a perfeet nanne for the senior affair. VVe ear- ried the theme out to ereate tilt' efleel of a l'arisian street seene, using blaek and gold eolors. For o11r king llllll queen, we crowned Boh Cndgel and Cherokee Simpson. Soon the erowd hefgan to thin. as the orchestra an- nouneed il was playing its last nuniher. YVe got our eoats illlll started to leave, thinking of the parties whieli were to follow, where we would eat, play reeords and Llillltl' llllfll the wee llOllI'S of tl1e nnorning. But lingering still ill our rninds was the proin, already a lIlL'lllOI'y, whieh had heen a speeial ki11d of inagie whieh eonld never quite he regained, hut whieh eould never he for- gotten.

XVait- ing there to serve us was a stall' of assistants, ready to arm us with papcr, pencils, erascrs and other parapher- nalia for the dayis Work. As the hours passed, it was not unusual to he called into one of the offices for some reasong these ottices were also the place where many of us put our talcnts to work hy delivering call slips, answering the phone, typing and performing other useful functions to aid the smooth administration of the school. Of course, there were the many inevitahle hours we spent in the classrooms. Most of the time we enjoyed the interesting suhjects and personable teachers, hut there were alway those few times when we would heconxe horcd, and would nervously sneak glances at the clock, which was seldom correct. The athletic office was an- other popular gathering place. Both hetwcen classes and after school, wc would stop here to check on the time for athletic events, turn in cligihility cards, pur- chase tickets for games or stickers for our cars, or per- haps just exchauge the latest gossip with the asistants working thcre.
