Quill and Scroll BOSSE'S CHAPTER OF QUILL AND SCROLL elected eight new ofiicers and took in twenty new members to highlight its activities for the year. The olficers were Mike Rea, president, Nancy Emerson, vice president, Sandy Bedwell, recording secretary, Ginny Dieckman, corresponding secretary, and Doug VanBibber, treasurer. Other OHL-ICEYS included Clarence Rahm, second vice president, Sally Bryan, sergeant-at-arms, and David julian, pledge master. In order to join the Melvin Bertram Chapter of Quill and Scroll, one must be an uppetclassman, must be recommended by his advisor and approved by the executive secretary. Out- standing work in the field of journalism is the final requirea ment to join. The purpose of the society is to encourage and to reward individual achievement in journalism. Quill and Scroll also tries to raise the standards of the held of journalism and to encourage students to choose a journalistic career. National I-lonor Society THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY did much to eliminate the misunderstandings that students had about the society and to make valuable improvements to the general organization. The juniors installed last year are Virginia Baird, Eddie Baum, Avery Carmack, Sara Coleman, Hardy Curd, Nancy Emerson, Roger Hotz, Sandra Moore, Don Plane, Gordon Seilfertt, Henry Schroeder, Bill Woods and Larry Rampy. They chose Eddie Baum as president, Henry Schroeder, vice-president, Virginia Baird, secretary, and Larry Rampy, treasurer. With the help of their sponsor, Miss Helen Stoutenborough, the National Honor Society members rewrote many of the by- laws and changed the entire manner in which new members were to be chosen. New members are still picked according to Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service, but petitioning was eliminated and now each student is rated by all the teach- ers that know him. In this year's induction ceremony, the Society took in 50 seniors and I2 juniors. Explanations of the symbols and the emblem were given by Avery Carmack, who spoke on Leadership, Don Plane, who told the qualities of a good scholarg Sara Coleman explained Service, Sandy Moore spoke on Character, and Larry Rampy explained the emblem. The Girls Club Council consists of Virginia Dieckman. Becky Nash, joan Kuder and Carol Banko, the four othcers of the group, -Iody Hartley, GAA representativeg Virginia Baird and Marilyn May. chairmen of the service committee and members of the social committee, and Nancy Semler. senior, Coleen Davidson. junior: Sharon Elliott, sophomore, and Judy Willis, freshman. Under the supervision of Virginia Baird and Marilyn. the Council gave a party early in the year to welcome the fresh- man girls. Another of the Councils many jobs is to be an active part of the Overseas Child Committee. which consists of Charlie Cox, jack McKeethan, Bill Danner, XVayne Crowley and the class representatives to the Council.

These produc- tions, however, were only the extra-curricular part of the choir's varied activities. Kittiwake Island was first on the schedule. Ginny Baird, Ken Sunderman, and Bob Surheinrich had the top roles, with the assistance of other members of the choir making up a chorus. The next operetta was Carousel Coping the main leads in this famous Rogers and Hammerstein work were Larry Nussmeyer, Sandy Moore, Rita Sourhwood. Gretchen Scherzer, Bob Surheinrich. and Pattye Meier, Again a select group aided in such songs as Youll Never Walk Alone, lf I Loved You and june ls Busting Out All Over. Two Cperettas singing several grade schools and participating in many pro- grams for civic clubs. l-lard work and practice were put into the preparation of the Christmas Production, the Easter Production, and Vocal Festival. ln displaying their talent in the Brotherhood assembly the Concert Choir combined with the Bosse orchestra to present Song of Brotherhood. Aspiring singers from the various choirs got into the swing of things by forming trios and quartets. One group, Charlotte Quirey, Peggy Gibson, Donna Dahmer, and Sandy Moore, sang in the Sectional Pep Assembly, while a trio consisting of Ginny Baird, Nancy Larr, and Gretchen Scherzer displayed their talents in the Christmas assembly. Bob Surheinrich, Ken Sunderman, Larry Nussmeyer and john Roth formed The No Name Quartet. Singing and dancing on the imaginary ,rand under the palmr and .funfhine of Ki1tiuake Irlandu are singing starr Ken Sun- derman. Ginny Baird and Bob Surheinrirh nrilh lhe native clyorur.
