BENILDE PERSONIFIES SCHOOL SPIRIT In the fall of 1956, a disorganized throng of boys from the Twin Cities and the suburban area entered a half-finished, ultramodern school building located on Highway 100 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. At this time in an atmosphere of sacrifice and constructive labor, school spirit was born at Benilde. Under the patient direction of the Christian Brothers, students willingly contributed their time and effort to the great task before them. All in all. despite many obstacles — tedious homeworks, personality conflicts, blue Mondays — the students met the challenge by developing an enthusiastic school spirit. Through competitive sports, fund raising drives, and student example. Benilde has dramatically captured the attention of the Twin Cities. In brief, we have, by means of a terrific spirit, made our school known. This spirit has successfully evolved into an intense force which reached its climax during the week of homecoming activities. No one will forget the magnificent parade to Marshall Field and the chilling excitement of the afternoon's victory. The attendance of hundreds at the homecoming dance proved a festive end to the week-long exhibition of school spirit, the culmination of four years' effort.

THE RED KNIGHT'S STORY t Throughout the preceding and following pages, the reader will see me in various poses and predicaments. My function will be to provide a little humor and amusement. My most important function, how-ever, will be to symbolize the modern era of the Red Knights. I represent the ideal Benilde student, for I am always optimistic and happy, and I take an active part in the activities that go on around the school. I work hard to get the grades I get. On the wall is a picture of my ancestor who was the flower of knighthood in his bygone era. In a comparison between us, you would find us both seeking and finding excellence in roughly the same areas. His excellence was judged by the rigid standard of the code of chivalry. My degree of excellence is harder to judge and define. In short, you will find that I am devoted to God, which is shown by a conscientious practice of my faith. I am devoted to my fellowmen, which is shown by my school spirit. My being true to myself is shown by a living of my principles. As the reader can see, even if the dates and garments have changed since the era of my ancestor, the internal quest to better myself for God has remained unchanged. Page 14
