FRED GUGAT Sixly-one juniors, bubbling over wilh ideas for a peppy lhird year, relurned lo school Seplember IO, l947. lmmedialely, lhe class chose a commillee lo conlacl lhe jeweler lor prices and samples for lhe lradilional junior ring. The final seleclion was a gold ring wilh a blaclc onyx selling lor lhe Panlher cresl. The class year was on eilher side of lhe cresl, and inside lhe band lhree inilials of lhe sludenls were engraved. The Barn Dance on January IO was a huge success. The audilorium was decoraled wilh barnyard scenes, and original hill-billy dances added lo lhe fun. The Junior Prom, mosl imporlanl occasion of lhe year, was scheduled April 25 al lhe l,D.E.S. l-lall. Under lhe direclion of Miss Violel Molfino and lhe sludenl commillee, headed by l-lope Paedon and Eugene Carmichael, lhe juniors worlced unlil lhe hall was lranslormed inlo a lovely garden on a slarlil nighl. Girls in prelly gowns and boys in formal allire danced and promenacled in a magical almosphere ol picliel fences, wishing wells, and be-aulilul flowers benealh a blue heaven. ln alhlelics, lhe junior boys made a good showing on all lhe reams, bul malcing lhe varsily in foolball and baslcelball were Ray Painler and Ken McConlogue. The girls won lhe inlerclass championship in A and B baslcelball. The class of '48 is counling lhe days unlil Ihey relurn as high 'n migh'ry seniors lo complele lhe lasl lap of lheir journey. Following lhis, everyone was served relireshmenls, and dancing was resumed unlil ll:3O p.m. The olher annual dance, lhe Soph l-lop, was held on March I4, wilh a Sl. Palriclcs Day Theme. The sophomore class was well represenled in sporls. On lhe second slring loolball leam were Pele Young, John Lilllelon, Don Williams, Bob Arneson, and Monly Smuclr. ln baslcelball, Pele Young made lhe A leam. On lhe B quinl, lhere was Bill Kibbie, while Bill Couey, Don Williams and Richard l-larly played lor lhe C's, and Billy Woo and Glen Furlong, lor lhe D's. The sophomore girls were aclive in inlerclass compelilions. Georgina Pelers, Jean Slandlee, and Lorraine Thompson were members ol lhe G.A.L. and joining lhem in February were Kay Carson, lvlargarel Mills, Sorina Pedersen and Gerry Wallace. The sophomores won lhe compelilion among lhe lour classes lor lhe highesl number ol yearbook sales. Aller an aclive and happy year, lhe sophomores lell lor lhe summer vacalion, loolcing forward expeclanlly lo lhe lime when lhey would be upperclassmen.
