Music Federation The Music Federation includes the band, chorus, dance band, and majorettes. This year under the able assistance of Prank Hoffman, advisorg Don Sanz and Dorothy Grant, Presidentsg Mickey Craig and Marilyn Henkel, Vice-Presidents, and Ruthrnary Savidge and loan Rchill, Secretary-Treasureis, the federation underwent many changes that helped make the year outstanding, The dance band and rnajorettes, seeming to be aware of the old adage, Practice Makes Perfect, stayed almost completely out of the social spotlight, and were contented to learn more about music instead of participating in music performances. The only appearances of either group was that of the maiorettes at the fall football games, and in various parades throughout the year. The chorus, the leading section in the federation this year, was one of the largest and most talented ever produced in Benicia. lt appeared frequently at various social and civic organizations, performing at the Mothers' Tea, P.-TA., many Kiwanis meetings, the Womens Club, and other functions. Later in the year a group of nine choral students selected by Mr. Hoffman traveled to Stockton to participate in a choral clinic under the direction of lester Hairiston. lmmediately afterward the chorus gave a combined concert with the band. This was a huge success, everyone complimenting the members on their splendid performance. This year's band, although small in both the number of members and performances, did as well as they were expected to do. 30 5 , i CHORUS ROW l, left to right: H. Tennis, B. Liqqetl, J. Del Campo, G. Another important event in the schools curriculum was its participation in a series of reciprocal concerts tc be held among the league schools. The Annual Block B Dance, highlighted by a stage show which featured some of the Block B buxom beauties, was held lanuary l3. Other activities included a snow trip complete with skiing and tobogganing. Early in February the initiation of new members was held with five lettermen being admitted to the Society. Wonderful cooperation among officers and members to- gether with good attendance at the meetings made all the activities successful and made this an outstanding year. Other officers for the year were Bob Pearce, Vice-President, David Galbreath, Secretary-Treasurer, and Dwight Hamro, Coun- cil Bepresentative. Under he leadership of these boys and their advisors, Coach Phil Goettel, George Drolette and Barney Corrigan, the society participated in many school activities including the sale of cokes, coffee, and hot dogs at football games. Displaying teamwork and cooperation in all of their games, the Panthers scared a total of 188 points while allowing their opponents only 76. Much credit is due for the three coaches, Phil Goettel, Bernard Corrigan, and George Drolette, who played an important part in all of the victories. Although there were 14 seniors on the squad there will be many returnees to bolster the 1951 team. Graduating seniors on the squad Were: Linemen, Dwight Hamro and Gene Curry. Ends: Bill Corn and Ken Liggett. Tackles: Chuck Chase, Bob Padgett, Charles Glass and lack Rahill. Guards: Tom Sorenson, Don Trent, Chet Carr, Bill Smothers, Mickey Craig, and Douglas Wold are all backiielcl men who will not return next year. At the end of the season the team elected lack Ptahill as honorary captain and Tom Sofenson as the most valuable player on the squad. The luniU Varsity season record was almost an exact opposite of the Varsity's. I-lowqver, the team gained valuable experience for next year's squad. The IV's lost alloiive ot their games including three league encounters. The games were all hardefought and the league contests were extremely close. I 7 IA . A TEAM S.C.A.I..
