Council Moves Onward and Upward The 1981-82 Student Council, under the leadership of President Marty D ' Ambrose, went through several major changes in its struc- ture. Over the summer and during the first two meetings of the school year, nine ammendments to the Council ' s By-Laws were passed. Under these changes, Chris Hurley, Vice- President, takes on the responsibili- ties of Cabinet Coordinator, formerly a separate position. The position of Supplies Coordinator, filled by Yvet- te Eber, was created for the purpose of keeping the S.G. office organized. Cabinet members are now responsi- ble for appointing a committee secretary and for keeping ajournal of decisions and actions relating to that committee ' s activities. The most controversial change occurred with the approval of a new system for the election of council officers. In the fu- ture, the President and Vice- President will be elected together on a ticket, with the Treasurer and Secretary being appointed to their positions on the basis of ability. Working closely with Fr. Bob, council moderator, Chris and Marty have stressed the writing of reports and the keeping of journals as a means of recording information valu- able to next year ' s committee chair- persons and officers. Treasurer Nan- cy Brachle has implemented a new procedure for making appropriations and Jeanne Lambke, Secretary, has been busy keeping track of weekly reports, minutes, and agendas, as well supervising the typing of much miscellaneous information. A different method of communica- tion between the student body and student council was initiated this year. Through the use of a survey- type questionnaire, dealing with sub- jects ranging from sock hops to sports and cultural events, the Coun- 90 Secretary Jeanne Lamke. Treasurer Nancy Brachle. ident Chris Hurley, President Marty D ' Ambrose, cil hopes to arrange for a variety of events that produce maximum stu- dent support and participation. In or der to further promote a spirit of unity and understanding within the W.S.C.C., a student exchange prog- ram was introduced. As part of the program, Benet students spend a day at one of the other schools in the W.S.C.C. and also guide visiting stu- dents from the other W.S.C.C. schools around Benet. Everyone in- volved in the exchange learns and understands considerably more ab- out the other schools and the similar- ities they share with Benet. Benet has moved upward in Dis- trict and State Council organizations through two very special people: Kelly Green and Jim Siddall. Jim ran for and won the Vice-Presidency of the Northeast District of the Illinois Association of Student Councils. As Vice-President, Jim is responsible for compiling the district ' s handbook and for organizing group discussion leaders for the upcoming N.E.D. convention in March. Kelly Green, culminating a rise in rank from President of the N.E.D., became the first young lady from a private school to elected President of the Illinois Association of Student Councils, and the second Benet stu- dent in the past three years to hold this prestigous position.

Men and Women in Service The Benet Academy Servers Soci- ety, moderated by Brother Edward, serves the community and school through various activities. Members of the servers assist at Sunday mass at St. Procopius Abbey and attend a weekly mass at Benet. At the DuPage Convalescent Home, the servers operate bingo games and visit with the patients twice a month. The Ser- vers Society is also affiliated with St. Procopius Parish of Chicago. On Halloween, the group traveled to Chicago to host a party for the chil- dren of the parish. At Christmas, the servers deliver presents to the needy members of St. Procopius in conjunc- tion with the Christmas Drive. Also at Christmas, the servers minister to the older monks at the Abbey through caroling. The servers, in all their activities, strive to serve, not be served. Marian Society: Front Row: Julie Bien.
