This year the varsity and frosh soph cheerleading squads worked with new moderator, Donna Baum- gartner to create a fresh, new style. Perfecting tumbling, cheers, and mounts the girls dazzled the basket- ball fans at every home game. Cap- tains Patty Baumgartner and Julie Bien assisted in selecting new talent early in the year. This year the 1981-1982 football cheerleading squad began practicing over the summer to improve tech- nique and gymnastic skills. With sharp new cheers and catchy sideline cheers, the girls spurred the Red- wings on to a successful season. The varsity squad consisted of five seniors and fourjuniors. Co-captains Margie Smego and Marianne McCabe kept up the morale of the squad. Under the guidance of a new mod- erator. From the first pep rally to the last game of the basketball season, the 1981-82 Benet Avions display their enthusiasm and school spirit. Their new moderator, Miss Mary Beth Hammond worked with co- captains Chris Phillippo and Clarice Gelhard to achieve perfection in the squad of 15 seniors, 7 juniors, and 5 sophomores. A new Fight Song routine was created, and practice was expanded to four times a week. Members of the squad attended two camps this year. Over the sum- mer at an NCA camp at ISU, eight of the girls joined to win two trophies, the Spirit Stick and the various rib- bons. Working Overtime Back Row left to right: Kim Thomas, Karen Overbey.
