In his thirteenth year of coaching, Bill Geist took his Redwings to Champaign after winding up a suc- cessful 1981-82 season with an Elite- Eight status. After winning both the regional and sectional tournaments, the team travelled to the DeKalb Su- persectional to take on the Rockford Boylan Titans. Finishing their season with an overall record of 26-3, the Redwings conquered the Titans at Northern Illinois University ' s Assembly Hall 56-43. Setting their sights on the Class AA State Tournament, the Redwings, followed by hundreds of fans, travelled to Champaign to take on tournament-favorite Quincy. In a Friday night quarter-final game, the Redwings proved their strength matching the Quincy Blue Devils. However, Quincy ' s talented players and a 63 game winning streak out- lasted the Redwings, and they pulled ahead in the final quarter. The Red- wings were defeated by Quincy 65- 45. The team was greeted by faculty and students in a Monday morning pep-rally honoring their players for attaining the Elite-Eight status and for playing a wonderfully exciting season. %nt
