It was no mystery that the 1981 Varsity Volleyball team cut a path of devastation on its march to the Dis- trict Championships. With five re- turning Varsity spikers, the team was quicker and more unified than ever. Besides beating perennial rival. Im- maculate Conception, to clinch the West Suburban Catholic Confer- ence, the Redwings, under Brooke Norman, knocked off such top-rated teams as Glenbard West and Lock- port. After falling to Downers Grove South in the first game of the section- als, Benet retired with a 27-3 record. Without its two senior All- Conference players, Captain Mary Burelbach, and Co-Captain, Karen Sacchetti, the team looks to its youn- ger players (including all-conference Carole Garrity and Betsy LaScala) to spark next year ' s squad to equal heights. At the state meet in Arlington the Boboskys completed a total of three matches. McDermott and Kramer reached the final sixteen before bow- ing out to the eventual fourth place champion. They then proceeded to reach the quarterfinals of the con- solation bracket, playing a total of seven rounds, a promising outlook for the years to come.
