Despite their 9-3 record, the 1981 Varsity Football Team will go down in the record book as the first Benet football team to reach the semi- finals. Under the guidance of head coach Tim Cederblad and assistants Gary Goforth and Denis Moran, the Redwings posted a 5- 1 conference re- cord. Benet lost the final conference game to I.C. in overtime 6-0, causing a three way tie for the title. However, the Redwings earned the playoff berth. The Redwings opened the 4A play- offs against undefeated Ridgewood, and Benet chalked up an impressive 23-13 victory. Then, Benet blew by Rich South 24-0. This victory marked the first time any Benet foot- ball team has made the semi-finals. But Benet ' s championship dream was halted by the eventual state champs Wheaton North in a hard fought 7-0 game. The Redwings placed seven men on the All-WSCC team: Pete Schaub, Steve Hubona, John Lupori, Tom Marth, Steve Camburn, Tim Strange, and Rich Baumgartner. It was an ex- citing season for the players and the fans. n lii !!!!!! • - .« .x„ . „ „ -,. 11 nn nn fFTTrt 1981-1982 Varsit Football Team: Row 1: Paul Gordon, Duffy Polk, John Lupori, Jim Leto, Jim Glimco, Jerry Heidkamp, Jim Konigsfield, Rob Henert, Tom Mazza, Jack Tucker, Greg Glimco, Dan Anderson, Ron Aeschilman, Tim Connors, Mike O ' Connelly, Dan Quinn.
