Harriers Strive For Perfection BOYS ' CROSS COUNTRY BA OPP 32 Immaculate Conception 24 15 St. Francis 50 21 Marmion 36 16 St. Edward 46 18 Driscoll 47 25 Montini 33 1981-1982 Boys ' Varsity Cross Country: Front Row: Ted Mazurkiewicz, Dave Lifka, Bill Brennan. John Purcell, John Talken. Row 2: Jim Geraghty, John Verwiek, Mike Plese, Another season is past for the Benet Redwing Cross Country Team. This year ' s Varsity squad got off to a promising start by immediately cap- turing three straight non-conference victories. After two losses, the team, with the assistance of their two coaches, Mr. Fedinec and Mr. Stark, were able to pull their pack together in order to capture six of the next seven dual meets finishing with a re- cord of 5-1 in conference meets and 9-5 overall. The Frosh-Soph runners displayed their running ability in a very suc- cessful season. After getting off to a slow start with one victory out of the first five non-conference duals, the young harriers were able to pull their pack together in order to come back triumphantly with a 6-0 conference record. One of the main highlights of the year ' s cross-country season was the success of the girls ' team. After winding up the season with a 4-3 overall record, the lady harriers moved into the District competition, capturing 4th place and qualifying for the sectionals. Led by coaches Mr. James Fogarty and Miss Stephanie Lewis, the Girls ' Track Team finished with a record of 7-0 in dual triangular meets. The team finished first place in confer- ence above the tough I.C. Knights. Jane Sachetti also qualified to com- pete in the Class AA state meet and placed 24th in the 400m dash. The team ' s success may, in part, be due to its attempt to bring unity through a team retreat and other various activi- ties besides practice. The team not only knows how to run, jump, and throw, but also how to celebrate the good times!
