Led by Coach Kenneth Kane, the 1981 Boys ' Varsity Tennis Team topped off its season by winning its second consecutive conference championship. Led by singles titlist Joe Nelligan and doubles titlist John Landry and Jim Grissom, the team pulled out the championship by a nar- row margin. Rick Green and Jeff Nealons at second doubles and Mike Greene at third singles were runners up. Junior Joe Nelligan won his third straight conference title and also qualified for the state tournament when he won three matches and was seeded 18th. The Benet Varsity Track Team finished third in the conference be- hind St. Francis and Montini. Although strong in the relays and field events, the Redwings could not catch St. Francis ' blazing sprinters. The 3200m. relay team of John Madden, Jim Eraci, Bob DeChene and Dan Gracious set a school record at the conference meet while the 1600m. relay team won as well. Individual winners included Matt Camden in the shot put, Dan Gra- cious in the 800m. run, and Doug Drabik in the 400m. run. Other run- ners include Bob Cahoon (4th in the 120m. high hurdles), Mike Sakach (5th in the 3200m. run), and Scott Sanderson (second in the high jump).
