The 1981 Varsity Baseball team, consisting of 8 juniors and 8 seniors had a fine season which saw them travel from a first place victory in the Granite City South Tournament to their final game against Glenbard South in second round regional ac- tion. Lead by captains Brett Sko- nicki, Tom Shanley. and Jim Kapla and coached by Mr. Wiora and Fr. Ken, this fine group of young men won the first regional game against Downers Grove South before drop- ping to Glenbard. Outstanding team members in- cluded Jim Karafiat, Mike Keough, Steve Baker, both named to all con- ference. Kapla and Skonicki were also honored when they were named to all-area, while Kapla was named the Redwing ' s most valuable player. Special consideration goes to Dan Lifka for his 3 homeruns and Brett Skonicki for his fine pitching, which included 2 no-hitters.
