ATUII J At, ? % mm B ' Urn, m Mr . m Mr. William Kohne, Math (Left): Mr. Kohne ' s activities outside Benet cen- ter around three areas, sports, music, and house rebuilding. He enjoys many athletic activities, especially basketball, tennis, and racquetball, while his favorite non-participating pass time is sitting in the bleachers at Wrigley Field. Mr. Kohne finds his most relaxing pastime playing guitar. As a member of the Old Town School of Folk Music he participates in the many other school activities and concerts. The owner of a 100 plus year old home, Mr. Kohne spends much of his summer remodeling and renovating the house he bought 5 years ago. He also enjoys bicycling, board games, games of logic and hates cats and sightseeing when traveling. Mr. Albert Rychtarik, Math, (Middle Left): Mr. Rychtarik ' s varying hob- bies include golf, bowling, fishing and gardening. While serving in the U.S. Army during WW II he traveled to Manila, in the Phillippine Islands and also served in the occupation forces in Japan. His son and daughter are both Benet Alumni and are mar- ried to Benet Alumni. Mr. Rychtarik also has two grandchildren. Sr. Roberta Knakal, O.S.B., Math, (Above Left): As organist at Sacred Heart, Sr. Roberta composes song liturgical music for the community and also attends dioscesan liturgical conventions to search for more effec- tive ways of implementing liturgical guidelines of the church. Sister is also a member of the Benedictine Musi- cians of the Americas, a group which promotes sound liturgical music and is a vehicle through which Benedic- tine composers can share their com- positions with other Benedictines. Miss Sandra Karkow, Math, (Above Right): Owning three horses keeps Miss Karkow very busy after school. She keeps two of the horses near her house and the other at a stable for hunter jumpers. In the summer many of her weekends are spent at horse shows where she usually shows her horse in jumper class. Miss Kar- kow ' s other interests include swim- ming, biking and sailing. Br. Charles Hlava, O.S.B., Math, (Center): Brother Charles, a member of the math department in addition to the counseling staff here at Benet en- joys fishing and sailing. He is also known for his musical contribution to liturgies at Benet and the Abbey. Brother has studied music, piano, and organ, off and on from the age of four. Brother Charles is also a coun- selor in the adolescent ward of a men- tal health facility, an experience from which he has learned a great deal about young people.

Not Just Mathematicians Mrs. Colleen Muellner, Math, (Right) Mr. Kenneth Leszczynski, Math, (Center Right): In his second year of teaching math, Mr. Leszczynski also assists in coaching Boys ' Varsity Basketball. He also enjoys baseball and all sports. He is originally from South Bend, Indiana and claims Hoosiers are the best basketball fans in the country, Woosh! Mrs. Cheryll Kelly, Math, (Below Right): Now in her second year teaching at Benet, Mrs. Kelly is thor- oughly enjoying it. Married less than a year ago, she had the opportunity to honeymoon in Hawaii. Her favorite hobbies are playing the organ and Aerobic dancing. Mr. Charles Schumacher, Counselor, (Below Left): In addition to his duties as Junior counselor, Mr. Schu- macher teaches math classes. He also coaches sophomore football with Mr. White. Besides spending time with his three daughters, Mr. Schumacher occupies his leisure time with various wood working pro- jects. Mr. James Pignatiello, Counselor (Center Left): Mr. Pignatiello is a warm weather person who enjoys the summer months. He takes pride in planting, working, and harvesting his garden each year. Mr. Pignatiello en- joys most sports, especially baseball and is a member of the IHSA as a registered baseball official.

Studying Cultures Not Just Language Mrs. Virginia Anderson, Latin II (Above): Mrs. Anderson, a new teacher of second level Latin, is very interested in music and spends much of her time on music related activi- ties. A mother of two, she is the director of a children ' s chorus at St. Dominick ' s Church in Bolingbrook, chairman of music for Bolingbrook Community Chorus, and a semi- professional singer and accompan- ist for Company B , a singing and variety group which plays locally. Mr. Rudolph Strahl, German I, III; Spanish II (Above Right): Mr. Strahl ' s favorite pastime is traveling. This summer, he and his wife went to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. There they had an opportunity to practice their Spanish with the na- tives while gathering information and slides of the area. They plan to use this knowledge in an advanced lan- guage class, where a book about smuggling in the Yucatan is read. In addition to hobbies of bowling and jogging, Mr. Strahl is a member of several language associations, in- cluding AATG (German), AATSPC (Spanish), and ACTFL (Foreign Languages). Mrs. Saint Blancard, Spanish II, IV (Center): Mrs. Saint Blancard mod- erates the Spanish Club. Mr. Peter Paul, German II. IV; Span- ish I (Lower Right): Mr. Paul coaches the Freshman-Sophomore level of Girls ' Basketball.
