Defense Shuts Down Blue Devils The Cadets used a strong defense and two clutch field goals to defeat Statesboro in a 7-6 overtime victory. The game proved to be the most exciting of the year as the Cadets used a strong wind to their advantagewhile an exuberantcrowd provided a great deal of support. B.C.'s defense completely shut down the previously undefeated and third-ranked Blue- Devils. Statesboro managed just 79 yards offense including only 19 in the second half and 9 first downs. The difference in the game was the punting of senior Larry O'Hayer as he kept Statesboro deep in its own territory for most of the night. O'Hayer punted 7 times for a 47 yard average which included punts of 60, 59, and 50 yards. Junior Scott Dold booted two field goals of 27 and 33 yards to send the game into overtime. The game was decided by penetration as the offense drove to the Blue-Devils 18 yard line while the defense held Statesboro to their own 46 yard line. Captains for the game were Richard Lutz and John Mell. Outstanding play was turned in by Peter Brennan, Scott Dold, Larry O' Hayer and the entire Cadet defense. l 102

Glynn scored three times, with one coming off of a 58 yard pass on the first play from scrimmage. The Cadets started to rally just before the half when Richard Lutz threw a 45 yard pass to Brian Watson for a score. After the half the rejuvenated Cadets scored on a 3 yard run by Chip Harris. With time running out, Glynn was forced to punt which was blocked by Steve Jurgensen. Six plays later Peter Brennan scored from the one to tie the game. Scott Dold kicked his third extra point of the night to put the Cadets ahead for the rest of the game. Glynn ripped through the Cadet defense for 198 yards total offense and 20 points in the first half, after the half the defense held Glynn to only 12 yards total offense and one first down. Outstanding play was turned in by Ronnie Shearouse, Peter Brennan, Scott Dold and Brian Watson. The M.V.P.'s of the game were Peter Brennan and John Mell. ..
