Cadets Hammer Rebels The Cadets scored a season high 41 points and shutout the Groves Rebels in gearing up for their region showdown with Jenkins the fol- lowing week. The defense was in top form, causing 3 turnovers and limiting the Rebel offense to 60 total yards. Wes Strausbaugh came up with a key interception in the third quarter which led to the Cadet's third touchdown and put the game out of reach. The offense scored 6 touchdowns, 4 by rushing and 2 by passing. Richard Lutz, Chris Tilton, Steve Walsh, and Donald Lowe ran for touchdowns while Lutz and Trent Meyers completed TD passes to Brian Watson and Chris Winters. The Cadets moved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the region. The captains for the game were Ronnie Shearouse and Wes Strausbaugh. Outstanding play was turned in by the whole Cadet team. M.V.P. was Jim Cain. 100

Defense Shuts Down Blue Devils The Cadets used a strong defense and two clutch field goals to defeat Statesboro in a 7-6 overtime victory. The game proved to be the most exciting of the year as the Cadets used a strong wind to their advantagewhile an exuberantcrowd provided a great deal of support. B.C.'s defense completely shut down the previously undefeated and third-ranked Blue- Devils. Statesboro managed just 79 yards offense including only 19 in the second half and 9 first downs. The difference in the game was the punting of senior Larry O'Hayer as he kept Statesboro deep in its own territory for most of the night. O'Hayer punted 7 times for a 47 yard average which included punts of 60, 59, and 50 yards. Junior Scott Dold booted two field goals of 27 and 33 yards to send the game into overtime. The game was decided by penetration as the offense drove to the Blue-Devils 18 yard line while the defense held Statesboro to their own 46 yard line. Captains for the game were Richard Lutz and John Mell. Outstanding play was turned in by Peter Brennan, Scott Dold, Larry O' Hayer and the entire Cadet defense. l 102
