You come from some twenty other school in this area and beyond. You are the focus of this school. You are Benedictine students. Your teachers and administrators want you to respond to your God-given talents. It will be our aim to promote acceptable behavior with academic goals. You have heard many times that we want you to be proud of your work and school, we want you to be courteous, we want you to be willing to follow directions, we want you to be responsible for your actions. Through work and play, study and prayer, we want this school to be a place where you can grow. We hope that this school not only adds to your life but helps you to contribute to the life of your family, your church or synagogue, and your community. We hope that you will be eager to learn answers, to find solutions, to do your work. And, we expect you to work in harmony with others as a team. We expect you to value each person. God gives many gifts and talents. It is good to be alive, to have friends, to know truth. Truth and knowledge, love and peace, friendship and happiness - all of these go into being human. They are not imposed on us. They come from within us when we are open and willing. It is difficult to be what one is supposed to be. Sometimes we have a compulsion to be what we are not. It is important to be what we are. Your teachersand I want your presence here and wherever you are to make an important difference. l hope you want that too. Give full measure to what you are about. Figure out what your values are and live by them. lf you begin to do this then this school year will be really worth remembering. God bless you. M.V.P. was Jim Cain. 100 Defense Shuts Down Blue Devils The Cadets used a strong defense and two clutch field goals to defeat Statesboro in a 7-6 overtime victory. The game proved to be the most exciting of the year as the Cadets used a strong wind to their advantagewhile an exuberantcrowd provided a great deal of support. B.C.'s defense completely shut down the previously undefeated and third-ranked Blue- Devils. Statesboro managed just 79 yards offense including only 19 in the second half and 9 first downs. The difference in the game was the punting of senior Larry O'Hayer as he kept Statesboro deep in its own territory for most of the night. O'Hayer punted 7 times for a 47 yard average which included punts of 60, 59, and 50 yards. Junior Scott Dold booted two field goals of 27 and 33 yards to send the game into overtime. The game was decided by penetration as the offense drove to the Blue-Devils 18 yard line while the defense held Statesboro to their own 46 yard line. Captains for the game were Richard Lutz and John Mell. Outstanding play was turned in by Peter Brennan, Scott Dold, Larry O' Hayer and the entire Cadet defense. l 102 s . l E f jj , 553 55.235 ai 5 3 s Z 3 f T M Q if 5, X A X,. . .t,.c x,x, t. 53 . . , X i i5ig3a ,tt ww . .5 of gays 8 ,E ,Q .N S xx X A-fffijyw Att Wg . 2 Q. Glynn scored three times, with one coming off of a 58 yard pass on the first play from scrimmage. The Cadets started to rally just before the half when Richard Lutz threw a 45 yard pass to Brian Watson for a score. After the half the rejuvenated Cadets scored on a 3 yard run by Chip Harris. With time running out, Glynn was forced to punt which was blocked by Steve Jurgensen. Six plays later Peter Brennan scored from the one to tie the game. Scott Dold kicked his third extra point of the night to put the Cadets ahead for the rest of the game. Glynn ripped through the Cadet defense for 198 yards total offense and 20 points in the first half, after the half the defense held Glynn to only 12 yards total offense and one first down. Outstanding play was turned in by Ronnie Shearouse, Peter Brennan, Scott Dold and Brian Watson. The M.V.P.'s of the game were Peter Brennan and John Mell. .. The cadets proved to be worthycompetition forthenumber2 ranked Blue Devils. This game as others was a defensive battle. The only score ofthe first half was a 20 yard pass by Tift. However, the so called comeback Cadets took the kick off of the second half and drove 75 yards for a touchdown, with the fatal blow coming on a 44 yard pass from Lutz to Watson. The missed extra point proved to be the margin of victory for Tift County. As a whole the Cadetsfinished with pride and reached their goal of Region Champs. Outstanding play was turned in by Peter Brennan, Brian Watson, Chris Knight, and Mark Stewart. The M.V.P. was Leo Sheehan. 104 e Highlights l Seven Cadets Named To All City Team Seven Cadets, six seniors and one junior, were named to the 1983 all City football team. Cadet Basketball Put Forth Great Effort Because of the determination of 5 seniors, the Cadets finished the regular season at 10-11 overall and 8-5 in the region. They are expected to do well in the region tournament. In his third year on the varsity, Greg Brannan led the team in both scoring and rebounding. DeVonn Adams, also in his third year, was second in scoring and led the team in assists. A good bench complemented the starters throughout the season. Despite the Jressures of taking pictures, writing captions, meeting deadlines, and overcoming all the adversities of our senior year, we still found time to enjoy working on this year's Sabre. Although at times it seemed that the 84 Sabre would never be completed, thanks to a hard working staff and an outstanding coordinator in Miss Regina Sullivan, our task was accomplished. We had a great time working with our Sabre Staff, and we learned a lot about working with others to accomplish a goal. Compiling the Sabre demands a great deal of work, enthusiasm, and responsibility in trying to capture all the aspects of B.C. - the spirit, highlights, and traditions of this school. We hope that this year's Sabre 'las achieved this purpose. 216 pages makes this the largest Sabre in B.C. history, and it is our hope that in years to come each of you can look at this yearbook and remember the good times and the friendships you had at B.C. In closing, we encourage the underclassman to continue the traditions and standards of B.C., and we congratulate the class of 1984, and wish them the best of luck in the future.
