SENICR CLASS HISTGRY As we the Class of 1956 come to the end of our Semor Year our four years of h1gh school seem hke a door clos1ng beh1nd us But before the door closes completely let us take 1n one last look and recall some of the memor1es of these years spent as students of St Gertrude's The flrst 1nc1dent that comes 1nto my m1nd 1S the sxght of th1rty g1rls all dressed 1n green and whlte com1ng 1nto the halls of St Gertrude s for the flrst t1me The g1rls came from many d1fferent schools but they soon formed fr1end sh1ps that would last all through h1gh school Many new act1v1t1es presented themselves to us We shall never forget our f1rstSong Contest or our fxrst May day F1nally June came and as we watched the semors walk down the a1sle of St Bened1ct's Church w1th the1r d1plomas we knew that we had really gone a fourth of the way and that the t1me was corrung when lt would be we who would be the graduates Now as the door closes a l1ttle more I glance aga1n and see the same g1rls returnlng for the1r second year of work and fun As our fr1endsh1ps deepened 1or and Senlor years our part1c1pat1on 1n school act1v1t1es became rewardmg for we achleved a degree of success ln our Junlor Year we won the Song Contest whlch made us very proud and happy ln our Jun1or Year too St Gertrude's for the f1rst t1me 1n 1ts hlstory won the Basketball tournament It was a day of trlumph for St Gertrude's and for us and we were truly happy to be a part of St Gertrude's We have now reached the goal for wh1ch we have been str1v1ng and 1n a few short months we too shall walk down the a1sle of St Bened1ct's Church carry1ng dlplomas We shall say good bye to our fr1ends and teachers for we w1ll now go our separate ways wxth only our memor1es to bmd us together We shall be happy on that day for we have reached our goal but we shall be sad too for someth1ng great has gone out of our l1ves And now as the door closes softly we hear the fam111ar refra1n of our class song rmgmg 1n our ears For your sp1r1t ever wxth us Has taught us to be true You have g1ven of your honor Your courage valor too We w11l try to be successful As we know you wlsh us to Marguente Jean Terrell 31 !
