SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We are the most lmportant teachers 1n the l1fe of any 1nd1v1dual and we are here to tell you of our share 1n the development of the Class of '53 Perhaps you do not recogn1ze us We are the four years of h1gh school and we want to tell you of our contr1but1on to St Gertrude's Sen1or Class Slnce the Freshman year 1S the eldest among us she w1ll be the f1rst to speak In the fall of 1950 a group of fr1ghtenedg1rls came to St Gertrude's and were put under my care Through me they learned that h1gh school l1fe holds much of Joy but lt was my duty to teach that h1gh school l1fe carr1es respons1b1l1ty too Although I was not a hard teacher my g1rls were happy to see me go Such 1S always to be my lot But now the Sophomore Year who was more successful than I w1shes to be heard Iam often thought of as the most 1ns1gn1f1cant of the hlgh school years but I too have contr1buted to the mental and sp1r1tual growth of the g1rls g1ven to my charge Together we went through many hours and days of hard work and many were the lessons that we learned But our hard work has reaped 1ts rewards and I know that each of my g1rls 1S closer to the ldeal of a Cathollc woman than each was when she came to me IH 1951 I am exc1tement the exc1tement of my g1rls who are now upper classmen They have come far through the years and my spec1al contr1but1on has been to for help 1n many of 1ts act1v1t1es My g1rls are now off1cers 1n the var1ous or gamzatxons and they beg1n to understand that success 15 never the work of one person but of many workmg together And so we accompl1sh many thmgs and wa1t hopefully for the last and fmal year I am Joy the Joy of a task fxmshed and done For three years I wa1ted for my g1rls I well knew my lmportance and gladly gave all All through the year I Jomed ln the1r laughter and encouraged them when they wanted to g1ve up How proud I was of them on Commencement N1ght when they came down the a1sle of St Bened1ct's Church twenty one strong They had reached thelr goal and the future lay fa1r before them But now I am sad for our g1rls are gone L1fe at St Gertrude's H1gh School w1ll go on as usual but only occas1onally w1ll the laughter of the Class of '53 be heard 1n 1ts halls In sp1te of my sadness Iam very proud and happy for the g1rls whom l1nfluenced w1ll go out 1ntoa world that does not know and love Chrlst and by thelr sp1r1t of faxth and love for H1m w1ll brmg others a l1ttle nearer to the Source of all happlness Mary Ann Llndner '53 35 , . .
