SENIOR SENTIMEN TS, 1954 Our Class History is a block of stone that has been four years in the hewing a block of stone which we have fashioned in beauty and chiseled themodest record of our achievements a block of stone now a figure in accomplishment which we lift with reverent hands and place upon that cloud challenging Tower that looms atop Benedictine Four years ago the task appeared great before us and we began itwith some misgivings for our hands were unskilled and our minds andhearts were weak with the weakness of immaturity Now the task is done and as we gaze upon our hand 1work we are content and proud in the belief that we have wrought as bestwemight Nevertheless our pride and contentment ina task well done are overshadowed by another feeling a feeling of sincere gratitude to those men of keenintellects and understanding hearts who guided our inexperienced hands bore patiently with our many weaknesses and made the task possible of fulfillment The fact that per sonal glory was unsought by these men is a commendable thing but that they should have labored so strenuously to avoid the honor that naturally crownedtheir efforts is an indication of rare and exceptional virtue In recognition of this we pay humble tribute to the faculty of Benedictine Our tale begins with the year 1950 In September of that year our class en rolled into the student body ofBened1ct1ne Confidence conquered our timidity and we soon developed the spirit of determination to attain our goal to become learned Christian gentlemen During our years at Benedictine there reigned in our class an over all companionship which can only be equalled and never sur passed Each classmate was considered a brother to the entire class As a re sult of these four years many friendships were made that shall never be broken '54 witnessed many other events that will make Benedictine history we witnessed the building and dedication of our new gym we were the first to wear the Eisen hower uniforms we were present at the Joseph F Black Dedication Memorial and were the originators of the Benedictine Drill Platoon Vagrant memories of our days at BHS persist in wondering through our brains The hilarious reception we received as freshmen The hardness of the seats in the auditorium Those discipline ses sions that invariably demanded explanations at home The 'bunny hop and hokey pokey at B Teens Bull sessions at Toms Penalty sessions on the campus wondering dreams memories Benedictine Half our happiness is in our memories Sentimental mortals' Perhaps that's why this testament of school and sport and spirit will gi ow greater come treasured more when our years lengthen Safe to say that more than once the covers of this bookwill be turned its pages thumbed again and again and a voice within us sigh It has been good 23 . . , Aside from competitive drills, sports, and oratorical contests, the Class of ' i . . .
