The addition of girls from Regina, Beaumont and Notre Dame in the newly formed flag corps and drill team added color and sparkle to the marching hand. Beside the halftime shows, the marching hand also competed in hand competitions, marched in the St. Patrick’s Day parade, and sold fruit, cheese, and sausage to raise money for its second annual trip to Florida. While in Florida, the hand marched in the Easter Sunday parade in Disney World and played a concert for the residents of St. Petersburg. The Symphonic Band gave proof as to the musical ability of the group in its annual spring concert; while the Jazz-Rock Ensemble continued to wow audiences in its four performances. The hand says goodbye to Mr. Yoho this year. 30 MR.YOHO 31 Top How (L to H) Ray Hartke, Carl Mariani, Tom Fasolo, Jim Lacavera, David Dews, Dan Frate, Ted Hartke, Steve Janko, David tavrenchik, Kevin Riley. The lone 3 losses were handed to the Harriers by St. Ignatius, Chanel, and University School. In the Akron Firestone Invitational, a very prestigious meet, the Harriers won two team trophies — one for third place in the varsity competition, and one for second place in tin- J. V'. competition. In one of the most demanding sports at Benedictine, the cross country team repeats its winning season annually never jeapardi ing the winning tradition of the school. Fr. Dominic is to lx commended for his fine coaching as are the runners for their hard work and determination to uphold this tradition. 71 What am I doing in here?” FRESHMAN FOOTBALL Kneeling: J. Teams such as state runner-up Berea, State ranked Massillon, Warren Western Reserve, St. Joseph, Wickliffc, and Dover were all to he tested and tested they were! Time and time again, the mighty Ikmgals gave it their all only to fall short in the closing minutes of play. The Bengal- came so close in many of the games, but could not jump the gap to victory and a possible state title. The Bengals did beat state ranked Wickliffc by a touchdown, and lost the last four games by only nine points, their efforts paid off when, at the end of the season, they knew they had beaten the state runner-up (AAA), Berea, earlier in the season. 75 ASHTABULA Augustine on the tackle Manning breaks loose field turn.
