Dedication: to a Benedictine man of 38 years The doy Benedictine high school was born in September 1927, Andrew Slimak was in class as a freshman. Nearly 13 years later, Feb. 17, 1940 in Saint Benedict church, he was ordained Bernard Slimak, a Benedictine priest. He returned to Saint Benedict's Feb. 17, 1965 to celebrate Mass for the faculty and students of the school he loves. Mass, in commemoration of 25 years in the priesthood. Born in Lakewood Nov. 27, 1913, Father Bernard attended Saints Cyril and Methodius grade school, Benedictine, Saint Procopius college and Notre Dame university. After ordination he entered the United States army in August 194? and served with the 43rd anti aircraft artillery battalion as coptain-choplain. He earned three bottle stars for participation in the western Carolines campaign and was on Iwo Jimo when the American flag was raised on Mount Suribachi. Besides teaching moral guidance and English, Father Bernard has been active in the Benedictine co-curriculum, serving as athletic director in 1948-49 and acting as moderator for several graduating classes. To o dedicated servant of God, country and man, the seniors are proud to dedicate the 1965 Benedictine. Father Bernard, O.S.8., second jubilorian among Benedictine priest-alumni, celebrated Moss in Soint Benedict church Feb. 17 for students and faculty members.
