Benodictine offers an education centered around God. However, like the atom, symbol of progress and power, the Benedictine education has many integral parts The priests, brothers, lay faculty, administration, seniors, underclassmen, athletics, organizations, and clubs are the components. Also like the atom the Benedictine education has power — power to mold character — power to form permanent good habits — power to prepare Catholic leaders for an indifferent world who realize that God is truly the nucleus around which all olse revolves. Without the nucleus there is no atom, without God there is no order. Now who in the world would b« up on top of the school? seems to be Boric's reflection os his fellow students focus their attention on getting home 5 j k Bs 6 DEDICATION A$ a varsity football end and varsity basketball center, Mic'nael Hudac showed his promise as a driving influence in the spirit and development of Benedictine. After graduating in 1934, he studied at Saint Procopius. College, Saint Vincent Archabbcy and Saint Benedict's College; he earned his master of arts degree in Classics at the University of Notre Dame. On March 20, 1943 he was ordained Father Florian, O.S.B. Since then he has devoted himself to the spiritual, intellectual and moral development of young men, emphasizing the importance of a sound body and character. During more than 25 years in the Order of Saint Benedict Father Florian coached the school's first undefeated junior basketball team and brought the Cotholic golf league title to Benedictine twice consecutively. The former varsity baseball mentor and band moderator completed his eighteenth season this year as head of Benedictine's Catholic Youth Organization basketball league. As German, Latin, English, Slovak, moral guidance, algebra and physical education instructor Father Florion has contributed tremendously to Benedictine's intellectual growth. To honor his twenty years of priestly service, we proudly dedicate the 1963 Benedictine to Reverend Father Florian M. Hudac, O.S.B. 8 9 SPIRITUAL NUCLEI IN AN ATOMIC AGE to PRESIDENT Serving 17 consecutive scholastic years os Benedictine's president and abbot of Saint Andrew Abbey, the Right Reverend Abbot Theodore G. Kojis, O.S.B., truly has manifested his capabilities os priest, leader, educator and administrator. Since September, 1946, ‘he president's aim has been to provide the best in education for Benedictine and her students. In November the dedication of the new gymnasium, athletic offices, cafeteria and study hall marked another giant step in the school's growth. Seeking to do and inspire God's v ill os spiritual and temporal guide. Father Abbot hos endeared himself to students and faculty alike. 12 Representing the students' respect lor the president, senior clou president Roymond Z«diurvos presented o check to Fother Abbot os o gift from the student body on his ttomedoy. 13 Administra In Juno, 1962 the Right Reverend Abbot Theodore G. Kojis, O.S.B., appointed a new administration. Under principal Father Luke, O.S.B., Benedictine saw the elevation of already high academic standards, •he introduction of a semester grading system, and a regular program of guest speakers.
