1 if X To the Benedictine family the archbishop of the Cleveland diocese and the two auxiliary bishops are outstand- ing and zealous priests, quiet of manner, friendly in approach, kindly and gen- erous in spirit, unstinting in their whole- hearted service of God. As spiritual leaders, Archbishop Hoban together with Bishops Begin and Krol, administer a diocese comprising eight counties in northcentral Ohio spanning 3,414 square miles. Under their guidance every type of Catholic activity is being initiated, expanded and encouraged. The spiritual condition of the diocese is on a continual increase--as is strikingly shown by the great numbers regularly approaching the sacraments, by those practicing Catholic action and by the educational, charitable, recreational and other Cath- olic works developing each year. When Archbishop Hoban was in- stalled coadjutor bishop of Cleveland in 1943, there were 688 priests serving 422,161 Catholics. Now there are 856 priests serving 749,072 Catholics. The scores of new churches and schools in- dicate Archbishop Hoban's great skill as an executive, organizer and untiring builder. we? is 'T lf: x 1 Q . Q, W , M 131. af . - xi . , ,,,., , .. .
