H. Cabala J. Chovanec L. Eidam J. Fristik HENRY CABALA - Besides being famous for its athletes, Lakewood has given us Henry Cabala, Benedictine's Bill Robinson. When the boys feel melancholy, Henry's rendition of Old Man Mose chases away the blues - and also the boys. JOSEPH CHOVANEC - 'Kid Tornado' from Lo- rain, whose fluency in speaking Slovak led to his appointment as honorary president of the Hlinka Club. In addition, Joe is the amateur Sherlock Hol- mes of the boarders. Send all clues to G-man Joe. CLARENCE DEININGER - Clean cut and ge- nial, Clarence is an ideal student. His neat appear- ance has commanded the respect of every one, be he freshman or senior. An orchid to Clarence, whom We nominate as our No-. 1 loyal sports fan. MICHAEL DUDA - Mike, the tall end of the Lorain duet, recently bought himself a second- hand-car. Now Mike can drive the boarders out to see his chicken farm in Lorain. Peep! Peep! C. Deininger M. Duda M. Haburay P. Hudec LEONARD EIDAM - Lennie, Deininger's right hand man, takes his fun in typical boyish fashion. What he lacks in size he makes up in grace on the dance floor and on the roller rink. Will Lennie live up to his reputation at the prom? JOSEPH FRISTIK -- Joe, our student supervisor of the NYA, delights in flossing his Lakewood pals. Having a peculiar sense of humor, Joe should be a hit as a radio gag-man. Fred Allen, look out for your laurels! MICHAEL HABURAY - A twenty-one gun sa- lute to our peace time sergeant, athlete and actor. Spending the summer at Fort Benjamin Harrison has earned him this salute. Just hope we keep out of war, says Mike who enjoys peace time training. PETER HUDEC - When Will Peter reveal the identity of that kid in Lakewood whose fame has spread -outside the Walls of our fourth year religion class? By the way, does Fristik pay Peter to laugh at his gags? Eine

J. Baydik J. Kulka J. Masar B. Blaha JOHN BAYDIK -- Senior Class president and Whiting's gift to Benedictine, UJ.B. distinguished himself both on the gridiron and in the classroom. Johnny, No. 1 Kyser fan, is going to college, but not to Kay's school of Musical Knowledge. JOHN KULKA - Like father, like son - this is true of Jackie, who hopes to become a lawyer. An honor student, our vice president will some- day defend the principles of justice. Good luck, Jack! We may need your services. JOSEPH ORAVEC -- Hailing from Sharon, Pa., Joe is the editor of the 1940 Blue and White. His actions speak louder than his words. Cardinal Newman's definition of a gentleman fits our Joe, who is Benedictine's ideal of a scholar, and a gentleman. EMERIC SCHMIDT - Schmitty , Benedictine's scoring punch in football, is a by-word in Bengal sports. Unassuming and modest, he will go far in college football. Lakewood is proud of this All-Catholic football star, so is Benedictine 4U we J. Oravec E. Schmidt V J. Blatnica C. Bujmlk JOSEPH MASAR - The play's the thing, says Joe of Soup to Nuts fame. But we think Joe's ability as a writer is as great as his dramatic talent. With your speaking ability, Joe, you should be a successful business man. BERNARD BLAHA - Our f'Minnie wants to be- come a druggist, so they say. Judging from the way he handles that powerful stuff in the chem lab, Minnie should be a good mixer of drugs. Do you know your latin, Min? JOHN BLATNICA - B1atts is the tallest of the Nativity trio. You can't blame him for shooting the Ferdinand, for he works in a meat market. Tall, not too dark, - handsome? Better ask her. CHARLES BUJNAK - Buns was a package of dynamite on the football line and what an explosion on the basketball court! His classmates will remember him by his famous words on en- tering first period English class, 'The street-car was late. 37

J. Kassai A. Kocik M. Lukac J. Massura. JOSEPH KASSAI - Casey at the bat! A blond haired lad with a smile for everyone - that's Kassai from Lakewood. Says he has no ambition - yet! A varsity man in football, Joe is a lover of all sports and a sport to all. ALBERT KOCIK - Al can win an argument even though he takes the wrong side. His gift of gab, along with his ducky choice of clothes combinations, makes Al a popular figure on the campus. EDWARD KOTYUK - Introducing - an honor student and athlete. Together with Palko, this kinky haired lad formed the strongest scoring c-ombination in Bengal cage history. The secret of Eddieis success? - a dead eye and a graceful overhand shot. BERNARD KRAMER - This is station W.B.- H.S., located in the dormitory of the high school, bringing you the music of Guitar Bernie and his merry mountain yodelersf' The prefect walks in and a blackout forces the station to sign off. lure I E. Kotyuk B. Kramer G. Menoes L. Mentel MATTHEW LUKAC - An Eddie Duchin in the making. At 18, Matt is an orchestra leader, com- poser, and arranger. Judging by his performance at the Senior Cotillion, Matt should become the idol of the air-lanes Within a few years. JOSEPH MASSURA - After spending four years With Red , we know Why Chicago is called at windy city. Shifty on the gridiron, Red also gets around on the stage. Hollywood, here comes the actor's actor, and president of the Footlights club. GEORGE MENOES - Georgie's career at Bene- dictine was brief but sensational. The Greeks would have a word for it. They would call him daring, especially on the football field. LEONARD MENTEL - A Scoop! Revealing the indentity of the Benedictine gossip columnist - Leonard Mentel. But don't try to hide your se- crets now, for Lennie already has the inside dope on all Seniors.
