Most of the present board members have functioned together now for a period of several years, and have directed the successful school system we have, which is approved by the state department of public instruction and accredited by the Univer- sity of Michigan, Judson A, Hudnut, our assistant Superintendent and Principal, deals wisely with many problems that come through his office. S. Industrial Arts Westem Michigan Seniors of 1957 - The time has come that all of you have been looking forward to, Graduation from High School, I wonder how many of you realize the vastness of the world into which you are going, We live in a wonderous and miraculous age, one of which no words are adequate to express. The greatness of it is the endless, ceaseless change which is not just an ordinary one to which we have become accustomed, in recorded history from time immemorial, but a highly accelerated one which leaves one breathless when he pauses to think of lt, We cannot foretell the exactness which the scientific forces will produce tomorrow, but we can be sure of this, that these far-reaching changes are all about us and crowding us in with increasing speed and pressure, What can we do about it? Ithink the answer lies inthe lines of this following poem, OPPORTUNITY, Tlus I beheld or dreamed rt in a dream There spread a cloud of dust along a plain And undemeath the cloud or tn it raged A furious battle and men yelled and swords Shocked upon swords and sluelds A prince s banner Wavered then staggered backward hemmed by foes A craven hung along the battle s edge And thought Had I a sword of keener steel Blunt thingl He snapped and flung it from his hand And lowering crept away and left the field Then ca me the king s son wounded sore bestead And weaponless and saw the broken sword Hilt buried in the dry and trodden sand And ran and snatched it and with battle shout Lifted afresh he hewed his enemy down And saved a great cause that heroic day That blue blade that the king's son bears - but this 'I lfalcdictary PHYLLIS WA RREN No show, Just glow, A nice person to know. WINNICK - Autographs 160 BUSY 15.43 2 'L 6 PHOTO NOT AVAILABLE Q 271056 Who Kara I've complained to the top of my healthy lungs about tests and homework. I've insisted that my teachers were not aware that I took more than just their courses, I've been bored to tears as they explained something that I understood thoroughly. I've passed from class to class automatically knowing my teachers by name but not by personality, Now I'm about to leave them behind, with my locker in the long school hall. It's queer I want to think about the last six semesters, I remember the teachers I've had, not whattthey taught, but how they taught, Each one was an individual with fresh ideas. One was informal in classg another was strict, Some gave tests everv day, some once every two weeks This one is particular about make-up workg that one didn't care. Some you could tease - others you just didn't. I hit it off with some, others I didn't, They had one common characteristic, that is they cared. Each in his own way - each in his special method - each offered knowledge. Each one cared. They made themselves memorable not by what they taught from books, but what they offered of themselves They wanted more from us in order to leam how to be adults self-sufficient and honest sensible and mature, They gave to us if we would have it of their great interest and their broad wisdom Many of us were not shining lights - I may be forgotten by my teachers in five years but I will remember them These people cared enough to provide for us the tools with which I must carve a good life More than grades they gave integrity enthusiasm ambition and friendship Ov 1 s 1,,..i.--1+ 1 'QF' , 2.411-'if 3 5 ' . 5 r Y 2 is Y 9.35- f':' F3 -T 1 , . The annual staff has tried to present all phases of student life, work and fun, We express our thanks to those who have assisted us in making our book a success, X jjfgmfiff 09 wt MV' K X. 4 ft f-'rg xr' 2- zg. w-. rl JN lb K., .19 I - ff X.
