in 1965 HWEST SIDE STORY ...orasateam,... . . . pupils played a part in the 1965 WEST SIDE STORY. In school or at play, Ben Davis Giants brought honor and fame to the school and community in many ways this year. The Mighty Marching Giants captured the state band title at the State Fair Band Contest. Pupils returned to school in September and settled down to classwork. Finishing the best season in years, the football team played tough opponents and showed their skill. Hard work and training proved itself as the wrestlers took a sectional title. The turnout was outstanding at basketball games as the Giants' team took on and defeated Washington and Lebanon, both ranked number two in the state at the time. The team then went on to cop the County Tourney title. The crowning touch to the successful season was winning the Indianapolis Sectional, the first time in 30 years. lt was a great year for the west side of ln- dionapolis. The three west-side schools-Ben Davis, Speedway, and Washington--took top titles in the indianapolis, Zionsville, and South- port Sectionals, respectively. lt is with great pride that the i965 Keyhole staff presents the Ben Davis WEST SIDE STORY.

Classwork, activities, and sports filled the lives of Ben Davis pupils. From the beginning ofthe school year to the last day before summer vaca- tion, the Giants spent an eventful year. Sock hops, games, class and organization dances, plays, musicals, prom, picnics, and graduation activities added variety to the scene. As the year drew to a close, pupils looked back at the many activities they had taken part in and recognized them as a part of the WEST SIDE STORY. Office girls and Mr. Girtcn hand out schedules to pupils. 1964-65 eventful year for 2000 + lt's a bird. . . . .it's a plane . .... no, an Play- ers bunch together in an exe citing moment in the Ben Davis -Speedway game.
