Mr. David Hoff, art instructor uses slides to demonstrate techniques to his class, This art student concentrates on not spilling the glue as he mounts his picture. classes add variety to academics ', The art and music departments of Ben Davis High School provide many opportunities for pupils to increase their abilities. A paint brush, canvas, colorful ideas, and pos- tels assist Mrs. Elva Strouse to teach her pupils appreciation of art. Every expression and phrase are combined in this desire to create. Pupils are taught not only the art of draw- ing, but also sculpting and sketching. A willingness to work, ambition, and musical CH ability make up the qualities of a good music department. QL. I, The music department, staffed by Mrs. Ger- J' ' i aldine Miller, choir director, ond Mr. Hal Meuer, Mr. Ray Horton, and Mr. Ronald Doak, band di- rectors, give students a chance to develop skills. CTI ITIES Sock hops, club meetings, initiations, dances, Proms, picnics, and plays kept Ben Davis pupils busy during the year. There was a club or organization tor every interest or talent. Those interested in scholastic fields took membership in academic clubs. For the sportsminded, there were active clubs. Performing groups and cheerleaders attracted those with special talents. Rounding out the list were honoraries whose membership is awarded to pupils who have achieved in a special field. These clubs and organizations fill an important part in the pupils' lives and in the WEST SIDE STORY.
