Besides the usual cal- isthenics and games, good posture is stressed daily. FRESHMAN ENGLISH CLASS Miss Mary McCleary gets a flourish of hands in response to a question asked in her freshman English class. Here frosh become acquainted with high school tactics in grammar. SAFETY CLASS DEMONSTRATION While acquiring a knowledge ofthe basic steps in accident prevention, safety students also learn the impor- tance and application of first aid. Mr. Ted Pierson, safety instructor, watches while Johnny Rice and Philip Paul revive Elmer Phillips by artificial respiration. 10 Rooms PHYSICS Since science is a subject in which laboratory experiments are made, the classes must therefore be smaller than most, in order to have individual in- struction. Due to the increasing enroll- ment, this has become almost impos- sible. TYPING Good use is made of every type- writer in every typing class. This year, additional machines were obtained, but there is still a need for more, as none are available for makeup work or outside practice at present. SHOP Blueprint for success-intricate de- signing of bird houses, book cases, and shelves, are learned in Mr. Freundt's shop class. This course consists of begin- ning art, crafts, and hand work and fine art. MECHANICAL DRAWING The art room is transformed into an entirely different atmosphere - from harmonious colors and cultural topics to more practical subiects-when it is taken over by students of the mechani- cal drawing class, who are preparing for careers as draftsmen. HISTORY History, a very popular subject among Ben Davis students, usually finds the class packed. Within these four walls events of thousands of years ago up to present day are reviewed by Mr. Lou Parnell. Here Mr. Parnell shows the class some vital spots on the map. All students of the school were eligible to become members and at present there are 500 enrolled. The Booster Club outlawed all unnecessary noise- making and booing at athletic events. Their motto is Good Sportsmanship. After the first year, many other schools in Marion County followed the Ben Davis pattern of good sportsmanship and organized similar clubs. The by- laws of the club contained articles providing for the presentation of sportsmanship trophies to the best athletes, and also for a project to benefit the entire school. An annual dance was the means by which the necessary funds were provided. The club purchased a 'I6mm. movie camera which was used to film games for use in a training pro- gram by the athletic department. At the time the Keyhole went to press, this year's winners of Sportsmanship awards had not been announced. JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM A trumpet fanfare, the magic words I crown you ..., and another king and queen are added to the ranks of the Junior-Senior Prom royalty. Jackie Hanneman and Poul Angleton smile happily as they pose with their court after being elected Prom Queen and King. The Prince, Dick Stewart, and the Princess, Lucille Wilson, pre- sented the trophies. Members of the court were: Bill Arnold, Donna Holcomb, Martha Miller, Leon Jones, Pat Cloud, Dean Toombs, Walter Andrews, Barbara Eastridge, Helen Stegemoller, and Richard Roberson. The theme for last year's prom was a beautiful Japanese Garden, highlighted by a stone bridge over a real pool in which goldfish swam. CAt the time this book went to press, the 1951 prom was still in the planning stage. That is why lost year's picture is being used.l 38 4 L L 1, 1 ' 3251 fp H 'Wi M ,lf 3' is f UT- ! ef ,gm fx, . Many people donated their time toward making the book a possibility. Elizabeth Vogel, Darlene Barker, Pat Roach and Lucetta Rice worked every day, all year, to supervise and write the book. Jo Ann Wilson, Johnny Klemm and Jack McMahon put in a great deal of time writing editorial and sports copy and Lucille Wilson wrote the class history. Bill Tobias spent the first semester taking pictures-Norman Bohm took over his job the second semester.
