These seven boys worked along ith the coaches to shape-up a win- ng team . . . they taped up sprained nkles and wrists . . . kept locker and apply rooms in order . . . washed tiled equipment . . . were always on ne job during games . . . were happy hen Ben Davis was ahead . . . and uttered when they trailed behind . .. ere always on the receiving end of player's ioke. These boys were, and always are, ne most unpublicized in athletics.. ney were the last to receive credit. . . nd yet they were an essential and tportant part of every contest. Since there is no real obiect in eeping the records of track events, te scores of the '49 season were ot available for publication. Only five boys were lost oFf of :st year's track squad by gradua- on. Under Coach Jerry DeWitt, they worked a completely new system ...their hard work was rewarded in their victory over Crispus Attucks in the sectionals. J fc?
