Misfortune overtook him when he lost his shoe in the County meet but he trodded on to second place. He runs the mile, half, quarter, and mile relay. Rick , a Senior and this year's addition to the tracksters, has made a name for himself in spite of his lack of experience. In six starts, in the cross country run, he has ranged among the first six to trot in home. Too bad he didnt start sooner. One of our star half and mile trackmen strides off the Ben Davis track with three years of competition behind him. Samaskys durability which he de- veloped in cross-country, aided him greatly in his Football. Well miss him. A versatile man who has given Ben Davis many much-needed points, by his speedy dashes. He has been on the team four years and he runs in the lOO, the 220, and is a member of the relay team. Fred began his work on the mile relay and cross-country teams in l937. He ran the 440 dash in l938 and capped the county medal for this event. This year Fred has had only a few meets but already he has won first position for the county in broad jumping. He is ct boy of great achievement who has added many points to Ben Davis's track record. He is a competitor of many events but chiefly participated this year in the broad Jump and trotted on the relay team Hes the shot putting fellow who can surely put a shot One of the old reliables of the track team his graduation in lune will leave a place which will be difficult to fill Bob is a fleet looted member of our tracksters whose ability will probably be brought more to light during his next year Although he is only a Junior he has already done some excellent foot work for the team The head man of the track team is our own modest Chuck Stembel who has so capably handled the tracksters for 12 years Because of his coaching abil ity and the confidence the boys have in him he can set a pace which is hard to equal and seldom topped by other teams His superb coaching is brought to light by his Cross Country team s performance one defeat in seven years This is Shafes third year on the Ben Davis track team He runs the high hurdles is a member of the half mile relay team and IS a high Jumper He is very dependable and did well in this year s county meet This will be his last year on the team since he graduates in Iune Curby as he IS known to everybody has been on the track team for three years and has done all he could to help the school Artist is liked by every body and is found to be very amusing all the time Ebby is our four year track star He has had a very successful season being undefeated thus far He was undefeated his freshman year and made the Varsity his Sophomore year He has been defeated twice in two years of cross country particpation Chuck says he IS the fastest cross country man who has run on our track The tracksters are indeed sorry to lose Ebby This years track team made a good showing against competition that is classed as being the best in the state The teaii s weak spots are in the field events Th s i mostl d e t t ic re t be overcome how ever in tne next ye r rt ii c new at letic eld now in the process of constructi n e ng sr ts of tie team are t e track events T e c c t t is year Nerc no match for Ben Daviss inilers i lalf et L uarter and dash men were taking their share of victories , . , , - - K - - 1 - ' 1' ' ' . i.
