LVD MR A T PIERSONI Spamsh MJ 0,0 MRS I-IELEIN POIN CE Mathematmcs XJIJZW WML MR JAMESI SHOCKLEY Uh xfwyf MR C J STEMBEL Socnal Scxence Q11 5 MRS GEORGIA MAY TRAUB Physxcal Educatxon Health Bnology MR B F WALKER Bxology Hwy MRS TI-IELMA WATTS Shorthand LAW-a MISS ESTHER WILLIAMS Latm MR ROBERT C WINDHORST English Journalxsm fl MR MAURICE L WOODEN Physlcal Educatnon Health Civics 5,1 fffwv ltr lfrjfllmt CLHSS VOYHGE The memonble day of September 8 1933 davvned serene and beautiful radrant vvith the sunshine of hope cheer and joyous promise The good ship Ben Davis High School stood at anchor at the vvharf of a nevv school year lt was the same old ship that had carried many passengers into the harbor of the Greater Wisdom it was rumored that those on board vvere about to set sail over nevv and untriecl vvaters in cjuest of the Fountain of Perfect Understanding XX e vvere naturally very enthusiastic and asked many eager questions of Captain Vance as to the inc dents of our voyage and its probable length He informed us that if vve vvere perseverrng and diligent in our duties vue could easily reaeh our destinatron within four years So it was with very hopeful hearts and smiling faces that vve bade our fond teachers and old friends good bye as we steamed away from the vvharf and out of the harbor actually embarked for a four years absence and our Y oyage of High School Life sengers nor to feel very much at home with our Captain the First Mate the Supercargo and even the Steward Our fears of shipwreck were entirely wiped away in the knowledge that so able a staff of seamen had us in charge There were naturally a few cases of seasickness and various ones were tempted to drsagree with Algebra Geometry and many other non understandable subjects and toss some of their best belongrngs overboard in times of rough sea but the Admrral told them calmly but nrmly that they would only have to consume these undesirables over and over until they were perfectly assrmilated Our successful voyage over the Freshman sea was aided by the crew which consisted of Ed Smith as Cap tain Peggy Wilson as First Mate eame Hamilton as Supercargo and Charles Ketro as Steward We had smooth sailing over the Sophomore sea due to the fact we had another fine crew with Furman Wyatt as President Irene Wyatt as Vice President Violet Bohanan as the Secretary and Louis Klers as Treasurer Plowing through the unior sea was quite a responsibility but we were ably guided by Captain Carl Rrstow First Mate Peggy Wilson Supercargo Betty Louden and our small but mighty Steward Sam Brer Now on this last sea the Senior sea we selected a very dignified crew as would be Our Captain this time being Grlbert Dickey First Mate Peggy Wilson Supercargo Carolme Thomas and our star forward oe Spreckelmeyer as Steward We now look at the larger more majestic ocean ahead of us and feel that our experiences have fitted us to withstand every storm and to say with Byron Roll on thou deep and dark blue ocean roll' Ten thousand fleets sweep over there in vain But not in vain the Class of 37' We will go on writing new logs of greater adventure and yet more wonderful discovery for while the Voyage of High School Life is at its end the Voy age of Real Life is just now at rrs triumphant commencement l6l , 7 4 4 K 4 v . 4 4 Y V V Y v . 1 4 A I , I 74 A V 4 Y ' A K ' f 5 in . y ' . 5 ' , . The team got a bad start at the beginning of the season, but towards the end was showing more improvement. we believe, than any other second team in late years. Although the team did not win fifty per cent of its games. winning seven and losing thirteen it was rapidly improving. From fifteen to twenty men were carried throughout the season. thus giving more boys a chance to show their worth. TEHlTl It seems that most of the organizations. clubs, and teams will be broken up this year because so many veterans in the various fields, will graduate. However our baseball team will not suffer a great loss because of this. There are only' four persons to leave the team this year. The remaining players are very' capable and indeed they deserve more support and interest than they have rea ceived in their previous games. The team feels that the season has been far from a failure. Although two of the players were injured slightly and were not capable of doing as well as they had at times. they did some remarkable playing this season. Among the teams they played were Decatur Central, Greenfield, Tech, Plainfield, Southport, Boys School. Martinsville, Indiana State School for Deaf, and Beech Grove. Meeting every two weeks, the Society has as its purpose helpfulness and kindness to others. .Each year at Thanksgiving and Christmas time, the members prepare baskets which are given to the needy people in the com- munity. y Every spring a variety show is given, the proceeds of which are put in the treasury, This year. a comedy Theres a Man in the House, proved highly successful. A bazooka band was featured in the same entertainment with several specialty numbers. The girls have a Mothers' Tea each year where, the mothers get acquainted with each other, and the different members. Various things, such as hikes, pitch-in suppers, and parties are given throughout the year for the sunheams. 4 Betty Leiendecker, president this year, has as her assistants: Virginia Rowlinson, vice-president1 Reba Fines, treasurerg and Wilma Bump, secretary. l l 4 4 BICYCLE CLUB The Bicycle Club of Ben Dans High School was organized this year as the First of its kind The club is sponsored by Mr Girton and Mr Corey The purposes of the club are to make riding bicycles safer to create an interest in cycling and to visit places of interest that can not be visited on foot The club made a trip ewery month once to Plain field Boy s school where they were escorted through all the buildings and grounds Luncheon was sersed to them and their busi ness meeting held afterward One hundred twenty pupils participated in a Bicycle Parade to Brookside Park last fall A picnic was also given and the officers were chosen as follows Robert Moore President Max Crandell Vice President Miriam Hoss Secretary and Bessie Shumaker Treasurer Mr Rouck repairs all the bicycles during the year in a repair shop built for this purpose The club is expected to become a bigger and better club in the following years I 34 i i . Y . . . - iii llriiiiiir le.. si BOQSTER CLUB Three years ago this club was organized under the leadership of Mrs. XY'atts, Mrs. Heath. and Mr. Gerrichs, for the purpose of securing money for athletic rewardsg as well as an encouragement to the students to help boost the attendance in all athletic events. At every home basketball game and other athletic events, the club has had charge of a concession. Some of the girls worked hard daily at the schoolg but it was all for the same purpose and the girls can well be merited in the same class, as one group is just as important as the other. All the girls have been chosen because of their responsibility, neatness, courtesy, and their desire to help the school in this worthy cause.
