Vervoort, F. Liddell, G. Gnagy, J. Frazier. Class l-listorq Only 17 of the present graduating class started out in the Bemus Point School System. Those of us who started. in Bemus Kindergarten were Edith Fiske, john Frazier, Barbara and Bruce Johnson, Florence Liddell, Dianne Lindholm, Evelyn Loveless, Richard Shepardson, Marjorie Tillotson, and Mary Lou Vervoort. In Fluvanna were Muriel Cederquist, Clara Iampietro, Dennis Lindell, Diane Moore, Gail Putnam, Beverly Russell and Sally Steen. We were the more or less permanent fixtures of the class, though even some of us had some time away from Bemus. We kept adding new classmates and losing old. In Seventh Grade we joined forces - Fluvanna and Bemus -- for the long-awaited High School climb toward graduation day. That year, Mr. Crevel- ing and Mr. Powell were our advisers. The class participated in the Drama Festival and climaxed the year with a trip to Allegany State Park. During our Eighth Grade year, with Mrs. Stowell and Mr. Peterson as advisers, we again took part in the Drama Festival, and also took a trip to Buffalo to visit the Zoo, and the Science and Historical Mu- seums. We had a class skating party at Midway to end the year. AS FOURTH GRADERS IN FLUVANNA. W'e had a combination Third and Fourth Grade there, and many of the present juniors are pictured here with us. . t N... lr 5 Freshman year - one step closer to our goal. Mr. Green and Mr. Peterson were our advisers. Wfe sponsored a dinner and a dance and sold pop corn at home basketball games. As Sophomores we were officially in Senior High. Wfith Miss Simpson, Mr. Gese and Mr. Carl- son as advisers and Dennis Lindell as president, we sponsored a dance and a most successful dinner. Junior year - with Dennis Lindell again our president and Miss Simpson, Mr. Gese and Mr. Carl- son again advisers - we sponsored a dinner and presented our junior play - Grandma's Best Years. W'ith the aid of Miss Anderson, we turned out the Be-Po-Hi. XVe honored the 1956 Seniors at the traditional junior-Senior Banquet. Finally came Moving-Up Day, the long-awaited class rings, SEVENTH GRADFRS HERE. We ioin forces from Fluvanna and Bemus to begin our High School days. and the thrill of being Seniors. Seniors at last - yes. we made it. Dennis Lindell was once more president, and our advisory staff - Miss Simpson, Mr. Gese and Mr. Carlson - were still faithfully with us. Selling magazines and candy, presenting the play, Mother ls a Freshman, and enjoying the Senior Trip to XVashington were the highlights of this last year. Finally, Graduation Day. As we make ready to leave Bemus High, we think back upon our school years with joy and sadness, remembering each event and every friend. Wfe have had many oppor- tunitiesg we have learned many things far beyond that contained in any book. Each in his own way now lakes with him memories to last a lifetime. Council In addition to its regular function of acting as clearing house for student activities and school policy, the Student Council, for the third successive year, has organized the student monitor system, with student monitored halls and study halls. As its judicial branch, it has again set up the Ethics Committee, which operates independently of the Council. Early in the year, President Sally Steen proposed the foreign student project as a Council activity, and the group initiated the formation of a local American Field Service Committee with Mr. Travis and Don Rice, co-chairmen, to secure a home and raise funds for this purpose. From the profits of its Student Store and ball-point pen machines, the Council has contributed S25 to the Piney Wfoods School and S100 to the foreign student fund. lt has sponsored several school assemblies, conducted exchange visits with neighboring schools, and supervised the campaign and election of Council officers for 1957-58. Composed of two elected members from each grade, 7-ll. it meets weekly to consider cases reported to it the preceding week by hall and study hall monitors.
