LT VANCE BERDINE Lt Vance Berdire was born May 13 1918 at Hazel Oh1o Vance graduated from Bemus Point Htgh School 111 1936 Vanc attended college at Lynchburg Va llewark N l Texa A and M and he graduated 'rom West 'l Xas State in 1941 w1th a mayor in speech He took active part in football and golf Vance also worked for a masters degree in psychology Lt Berdine entered the Army A1r Corps on November He was made Battalion First Captain on February 23 1942 at California Are-o Acaderny Vance received his wings and commi sion in the graduation clas 42 E on May 21 1942 at Victorville Flying School Victorville California 26 42 GIQUB SGT HOWARD WELCH Sgt Howard Welch was born on September 23 1921 in Niagara Falls Ontario He became a citizen of the United States before entering the Army Howard graduated from Bemus Po1nt Central School ir lune of 1941 He was active in many sports while in h1gl1 school After graduation Howard was em ployed by lvor Pardee until he entered the service on luly 15 1942 After 1nduct1on into the Army Howard was sent to Florida for everal weeks during wh1ch he tarted traimrg for a ground crew in the United States Army A1r Corps From Florida he was sent to Buckley Field Colorado After months of tra1n1ng in the Army A1r Corps Sgt V1 elch wa sent from Rapid C1ty South Dakota to England Howard was reported killed while ervlng less than two weeks WILLIAM HENRY William Henry known as B111 to everyone graduated from Bemus Point High School in 933 B111 was interested in all pha es of school life He was a good English student ana was very clever at writing B111 Nas the first school reporter and reported directly to the lamestown new paper He worked on the school paper and was good at drawing car toons ln the Senior play My terv of the Third Gable B111 played art e cellent bat He wa a 'member ol the H1 Y Club B111 was intere ed in sport and par 1c1pated in track volleyball and played depend b e baseball Everyone liked B111 and he was very cooperative At gradua ion he won the Belford prize which was given to the studert voted be t all around William He y Joined the Naxv sometime alte graduation cmd 1e wa killed Nliile rx ng on board hip Y , . . 1 1 S ' Ai A S 3, 1941. f ' ' ' - ' ' y 1 I.
