NEW STUDENTS TIE YEAR TOGETHER team to the IHSA state playoffs. The football season was highlighted when Steve Swaim crowned Jody Williams as the 1979 Home- coming Queen. Coach Missy Stone led the volleyball team to its third consecutive undefeated conference title. Both teams were fully supported by the students and the community. Because of the 1978 referendum, BHS now has a new agriculture and industrial arts building. It was completed in the spring and will benefit the students in the coming years. BHS saw many new faces this year including Gitte R. Madsen who was an exchange student from Denmark. She was an honorary graduate of the Senior Class, and was hosted by the Richard Thomas family. As new faces come, familiar faces go. After 25 years of teaching foreign language at Bement, Mrs. Virginia Dare retired. Her dedication and fine teaching skills will be remembered and missed by students and faculty alike. 3

CHAMPIONSHIPS, NEW BUILDING, Like most years, this year has been filled with many of the same ol' things, but a few special memories, unique to 1979, will be set in the minds of BHS students. 1979 brought about the first LOVC Football Championship for the Bulldogs since 1939. Coach Jim Hays completed his first year of coaching with a 7-0 conference record and advanced the 2
