Injuries and Inexperience Ruin Bulldogs' Season The Bulldogs had an unfortunate run of luck this season with a record of two wins and seven losses. They began the year with a 31-6 victory over Mow-eaqua but another win wasn’t until Homecoming when they held Newman in a score of 7-6. Several injuries occurred during the season causing Joe Thompson, Gary Harvey, and Steve Pruitt to be “benched” mid-season. Tim Tracy was chosen, by the team. Most Valuable Player and shared the co-captain honor with Dan Becker. Jeff Roberts received the honor of Best Blocker and the Most Tackles. Kevin Phipps was chosen Most Improved Player. This was a young team with only six seniors and not a lot of experience, but they hope to make up for it next year. 1. Season Disappoints Underclassmen This year Bement’s J.V. and Freshmen teams had a disappointing season winning only one game out of twelve. Even though they only won one game, most of the J.V. games were close. The Freshmen, however, were totally outclassed except at Villa Grove. The J.V. record was 1 and 6; they beat Atwood Hammond. The A-H team had beaten the Freshmen twice during the year. The J.V.’s like the Varsity, had quite a few injuries to key sophomores who could have possible made the season record better. Three of the players injured were Mike Flavin, Nick Manali-say, and Jeff Bradley. These three along with John Bentley, Chuck Price, and Brett Phipps dressed and played on the Varsity Squad. 1.
