The faculty has a deep appreciation for you. One must never forget that democracy at its worst is still, by far, the best government yet devised by man. Many times, changes come slowly, but fairly. One must learn to respect the other mans ideas, religion, and rights. It is most amazing that an instrument such as the national constitution is as useful today as it was almost two hundred years ago. A man’s life is not just his own to do with as he pleases. He owes something constructive to civilization. One man’s freedom ends when he transgresses on the other man’s freedom. For success in life, you will need high morals, intelligence and a will to learn. Thank you, J. E. Hargrave. Superintendent BOARD OF EDUCATION: First row: President Robert Postlewait. I have watched you grow and mature and have been proud to have helped you do so. I have great hopes for you in the future. I would wish each member of the Class of'70 the best of everything as you leave Bement High. You have what it takes to make your “place in the world . Go and do those things that need to be done. Face your future with courage, act with wisdom and take pride in your accomplishments. To those classes which will follow 1 would issue the challenge to walk tall in the footsteps of the Class of '70 Thomas R. Hensley, Asst. JUNIORS DECORATED Juniors worked magic to transform the small gym into a sidewalk cafe in Venice for Prom 1970. Red and white checkered covered tables surrounded the dance floor where couples could dance to a rock band. A buffet table was arranged in the outer hall which also resembled a cafe. Midway through the evening, the seniors were presented with lavalieres as a memento of the evening in Venice. It wasn’t all work for the juniors, though. As these pictures show, they had a lot of fun decorating for the prom, too. 78 FOR PROM 1970 79 PROM 1970 Prom 1970, An Evening in Venice, was long awaited by the Juniors and Seniors.
