The faculty has a deep appreciation for you. One must never forget that democracy at its worst is still, by far, the best government yet devised by man. Many times, changes come slowly, but fairly. One must learn to respect the other mans ideas, religion, and rights. It is most amazing that an instrument such as the national constitution is as useful today as it was almost two hundred years ago. A man’s life is not just his own to do with as he pleases. He owes something constructive to civilization. One man’s freedom ends when he transgresses on the other man’s freedom. Advanced Latin students are given a chance to show their superiority by ordering the Latin 1 students to act as their slaves at this banquet. An actual slave auction is held the week preceding the banquet. Shown at left are Shelton Woodward and Joan Ard being crowned Caesar and Cleopatra by guests Mrs. Hensley and Mr. Ward Dare. The project of collecting gifts for the “forgotten patients” at Lincoln State School has become a tradition with the French Club at BHS. Some of the activities of the student council this year included the sponsoring of the All School Party, the Homecoming activities, and a Basketball contest for picking the state high school champions. It acted as co-sponsor with the GAA for a dance on March 13 featuring the Midwest Delegation. This year they undertook the rewriting of the student council constitution. JUNIORS DECORATED Juniors worked magic to transform the small gym into a sidewalk cafe in Venice for Prom 1970. Red and white checkered covered tables surrounded the dance floor where couples could dance to a rock band. A buffet table was arranged in the outer hall which also resembled a cafe. Midway through the evening, the seniors were presented with lavalieres as a memento of the evening in Venice. It wasn’t all work for the juniors, though. As these pictures show, they had a lot of fun decorating for the prom, too. 78 FOR PROM 1970 79 PROM 1970 Prom 1970, An Evening in Venice, was long awaited by the Juniors and Seniors. The Juniors had transformed the gym to a Venetian side-walk cafe. A buffet was provided in the outer hall for those couples who did not wish to dance to the beat of the “rock’ band.
