Helping with make-up for the senior play was just one of the many extra services Miss Houston performed as senior class advisor. Because of Miss Houston’s thoroughness as yearbook advisor, no page could goto the publisher without her approval. Prompted by this fact, the annual staff feted her at a surprise party to announce the dedication of the ’65 BIM. The class of 1965 is honored to have the privilege to dedicate this year’s BIM to our devoted sponsor, teacher, and friend, Miss Isabelle Houston. Miss Houston came to Bement High School in 1928 and has been influential in establishing the high standards and the well-rounded program that make BHS the fine, respected school it is today. As an English teacher, Miss Houston has shared with many, many students her interest in and aptitude for grammar, literature, composition, and speech. As school librarian and advisor to the student librarians, Miss Houston has efficiently kept the library up-to-date and running smoothly. As the dedicated person she is, Miss Houston has unselfishly and willingly sacrificed much of her own time to sponsor and advise thirty-seven senior classes, to direct thirty-two senior plays, to start the school newspaper and to advise twenty-two volumes, and to supervise the publishing of twenty-seven yearbooks. Although Miss Houston’s retirement markes the close of a rewarding teaching career of forty-two years, the effects of the knowledge and of the principles which she has imparted to her students will be everlasting. Foreword We, the yearbook staff, proudly present the 1965 BIM. On these pages, the history of Bement High School, 1964-65 will unfold revealing the joys and the frustrations, the beginnings and the endings, the work and the play. The dates 1964-65 represent the calendar year but more importantly the school year through which we’ve progressed. For some of us this school year is our first at BHS, for others, our last. For all of us, the Life of BHS and the Personalities of BHS shall live forever in our memories and in the 1965 BIM.

After summer vacation, the first social event of the year was the Annual Party, where everyone received his new Bim and collected autographs galore.
