Opportunity to Learn . . . The new French III class, in its first year of existence at BHS, was made up of fifteen students. Besides studying from their regular books, the students increased their proficiency by describing pictures in French. This is Russia. Color it Red. Map-work was an important part of the geography students' study of the physical, political, and economic characteristics of a country. Industrial Arts students put the finishing touches on woodworking projects. The course also included studies in metalcraft, electricity, and mechanical drawing. 13

Classrooms Provide An art class enriched the curriculum at BHS with study in art appreciation and practice in the creative arts. Although various mediums were employed throughout the course, enamel paint was used for this mural in the lunch room. English IV classes learned to evaluate the quality of themes by analyzing those written by high school students. The overhead projector was used to focus the theme, grades, and comments on the wall. Meal planning, cooking, and studies in family life are taught in Home Economics. Here, Polly Larson was putting pork chops into the broiler to keep them warm while Ellen Haynes and Donna Kitson helped to prepare the rest of the meal.

And Test Learning Drills in typing class test achievements in the student's speed and accuracy. These acquired skills open doors of opportunity in office work and assist students in college. Repairing a tractor is a small part of farm management, but a necessary one. Thus the ag. boys gain this experience in addition to learning about budgets, crops, and soils. Jim Lamb and Charles Body apply their learning as they work on the school's tractor. 14
