Projyheqf I ve been a workrng grrl all of my lrfe and for the past thrrteen years I ve been a prrvate secretary for the lrte Don Wears Lrpton He dred thrs past month of an overdose of strnrulants and left me approxrmately frfty two mrl lron dollars to be drstrrbuted equally among my classmates of 1960 I drdn t know where to begrn so I decrded the best place would be my old home town Belzonr Mrssrssrppr Mr Lrpton s trusty chauffeur came to get my bags and take me to the arrport I gave Osborn hrs check then When I turned around he exclarmed A mrllron bucks for me lrttle ole Harold Osborn Jackson' Igor my trcket boarded the plane and wlro should be the prlot but Howard McMorrough better known as Brll the Krd yffvhrle srttrng on the plane a pretty grrl of approxrmately twelve came over and sat wrth me We began to chat and I drscovered she was the daughter of Mrs Carol C Crrbbs Her mother the former Carolyn Carlton later told me that Mack had marrred Mary Joy Solomon who had been marrred and drvorced four drfferent trmes I gave Carolyn her check and decrded to get forty extra wrnks before we landed rn Greenvrlle I had made arrangements wrth Val Bryan to prck me up at the arrport Good old Val' The same short lrttle runt wrth four short mrnatures followrng along behrnd her I gave her check to her and she sard rt would come rn handy because Johnny had gambled all her money away lost the farm and the Ford Place poor guy' He de serves hrs check so she delrvered rt to hrm for me When we arrrved rn Belzonr I was so trred that we went drrectly to Davrd Gordon s Cafe Val sard that most of the men stayed around there She was rrght' I saw practrcally all the boys from my class wrthrn the next two hours I gave Davrd hrs check and whrle I was drrnkrng my coffee Robert Cotton who managed the Morgan and Lrndsey Store came rn He was glad to get thrs check because he was havrng a hard trme tryprng to pay hrs clerks Sandra Lyle Lucy Knott and Mary Palmore He delrvered the checks for me whrch was a real relref Mack and Mary Joy came rn and we chatted for a long trme They had just remodeled therr Drug Store so the money would come rn very handy They delrvered Helen Pope Hrll s check to her because she was helprng them rnventory srnce she had nothrng else to do Charles was rn the French Forergn Legron I walked down to Gladys Thomas s Ben Franklrn Store to delrver her check and who should be her clerks but Lrlly Ann Watson Lucrlle Ross and Brenda Rrce' I was so glad to see them all They told me that after frve years of gorng steady therr bookkeeper Joe Odom had frnally marrred Carolyn McFarland Joe has done qurte well but they wrll strll be glad to recerve therr checks On leavrng therr store who should I run rnto but Thomas and Patsy Allen? It must be nrce to be rn love' It made them love each other more thought to thrnk they had three mrllron dollars to splrt between them srnce Carl Foster had wrlled Patsy all hrs worldly possessrons Patsy told me where to locate Jean Thornton rn her new beauty shop Of course she has been marrred to Denon srnce the summer before the 63 flood I heard Carl Smrth never regarned conscrousness after the senror trrp Mr Dupuy hrt hrm wrth a surtcase Well I guess I ll donate hrs check to dear old B H S I called a cab Harper and Rushrn Incorporated I knew by the trtle that Tommre Nell and Annre Jean were pretty br wheels around town so I as ed Leon Bruce therr drrver to delrver therr checks for me He was so ex crted wrt hrs own check that he almost ran rrght rnto the school house Heaven forbrd' rf Mr Traylor rs Super rntendent I was shocked to frnd Jackre Sorrels and Joe Long had a Jornt Agrrculture Shop and were dorng so well that Mr Krrk had to retrre They told me Walter Turner had marrred Nellre Ruth Denman and that they both were teachrng hrstory so I guess therr checks wrll be apprecrated I walked down to the Old Elementary to see rf they had made any rmprovements and who should be the Janrtor but Bluford Taylor He told me he had lost all hrs money over a perrod of two years because he hadn t learned a thrng rn Mr Deer s Algebra Class When I gave hrm the check he fell agarnst the old borler rn the borler room I called for the frrst ard nurse and who should come runnrng but Kathrrne Hales I almost drdn t recognrze her be cause her harr was so grey I decrded to walk to the hotel and get a room Carolyn and Phrllrp Prestrrdge stopped and gave me a rrde downtown They were both overjoyed to get therr checks Phrllrp sard that now Carolyn could stop workrng at the factory and they could take a trrp down to Jackson to see H C and Martha Jo Garrard It seems that H C was a red hot racer there and he s breakrng all records As we rode by the Frrst Baptrst Church I almost fell out when I saw that Scott Vrckers was the preacher and Larry Lewrs was the chorr leader I guess I ll delrver therr checks tomorrow I wasn tthe least sur rrsed to hear that Carol and Garnett Harrrs had a store rn Mrdnrght and that Jarrel and Salvador were workrng or them I ll bet that rs a happy four some Although they have some tough competrtron Charlene Elardo and Dorrs Pettrgrew are remodelrng therr store I ll drop by to see them tomorrow and delrver therr checks Phrllrp let me out at the hotel and who should be the owner but Lucran Wadlrngton He can certarnly use hrs check for clothes alone Poor fellow I was glad to see Clayton Marshall had an rnsurance offrce rrght next door It must be a pretty brg operatron wrth hrs havrng a prrvate secretary I heard Earlene became too loud for hrm to handle so he had to replace her Rrght next door I see Junre Srmpson and Mary Eleanor Hrll have gone rnto the constructron busrness together SHE handles the busrness end of course I walked rnto the hotel and who should be the desk clerk but Thomas Morgan I got rnto the elevator and the operator turned out to be Joe Lee Outlaw but that boy always drd have a lot of up s and down s rn hrs lrfe srnce he marrred Sherla I rang for the wartress and who should walk rn but Charlotte Mrllwood She has garned frfty pounds srnce she became the dretrtran at the hosprtal rn her spare trme I ve had a busy day so I guess I d better catch a nap and make my trrp to Mrdnrght and Srlverbone Srgned GLYNN HARD WICK 30 u '.
