CLASS PROPHECY For many hundreds of years It has been the accepted herltage of the gypsy to possess the remarkable power of foretelling the future Recentlyl had the good fortune of encounterlng such a person Her name was Madame Belwoodxa, and when I explained that I had been elected the Senxor Class Pro phet of Belwood Hlgh School, her eyes gl1stened wlth ant1c1pat1on She accepted my S1 00 offerlng and here IS the story she told The year 1S 1974 the season is wlnter In a large offlce bu1ld1ng in Washington, D C I-l1lda W11l1S is a pr1vate secretary to a Senator from North Carollna Three stor1es below her, Mary Beth Dell1nger 1S employed as a f1le clerk for a very prom1nent legal f1rm Movlng over to the alrport a large s1lver plane has just landed and Dor1s Sam 1n the blue umform of a1rl1ne hostess, is asslstmg the passengers as they leave the plane One of the passengers IS Don Yarboro who has just completed h1s latest novel and lS vacat1on1ng at the Nat1on's Cap1tol H1s secretary Amta Norman, is now 1n charge of h1s executxve offlce 1n Charlotte North Carolina An outstandmg feature of th1s modern bu1ld1ng is the un1que beauty Saloon and barber shop located on the f1rst floor and operated Jomtly by Mable Randall and Fred Benton At the large sw1tchboard on the second floor Dor1s Hunt, Ann1e Sue Will1s and Mae Fredell are bus1ly engaged 1n the art of answermg phones and placlng long dzstance calls In another part of the bu1ld1ng Edxth Tallant and Jera1d1ne Ledford are hurrxedly preparmg for the noon rush at the1r soda fountam and sandwlch shop It IS rumored that they are plannlng to open a branch restaurant 1n Shelby And speaklng of Shelby Glen McCurry has just opened h1s new garage and dlrectly across the street Franklm Buff IS operat1ngh1s new service station Wlth tremendous success Across tovsm, Donald Earwood IS now work1ng 1n h1s own rad1o rapalr shop In the Shelby Hospltal Frances Peeler and Dor1sHamby are employed 1n the Nurslng Profess1on One of the Med1cal Doctors at the hosp1tal lS the now famous J B Smith At the h1gh school Mary Jane Seagle IS now teachlng math and Dor1s Earwood lS 1n structlng her physical educat1on class 1n the art of basketball J o Ellen Lutz IS now employed as SOC1ety editor of the local newspaper Peggy Rlchards IS employed at the Hudson HOSICPY and It IS rumored that weddmg bells w1ll rlng for her 1n the near future Frances Dav1s plans to leave for Washlngton 1n one week to contlnue her career asac1v1l serv1ce worker Nor1s Sam, now a famous rumors that he w1ll campaign for the United States Senate 1n the next electlon And w1th that f1nal statement the SYPSY lady pol1tely ushered me out into the crowd and the intervlew was over Prophet Jo Ellen Lutz 'Lxl vs ll, V9 ll H N X527 X criminal lawyer, plans to fly to Richmond, Virginia for a meeting.
